Song Kang & Go Min-si’s First Netflix K-Drama Couldn’t Be More Different From Sweet Home

Summary Song Kang and Go Min-si first starred together in Love Alarm before Sweet Home.

Love Alarm is a romantic drama while Sweet Home is a horror story.

Song Kang and Go Min-si are both reprising their roles in Sweet Home season 3.

Song Kang and Go Min-si’s first Netflix K-drama was the opposite of Sweet Home, from the show's tone to the dynamic between their characters. The cast of Sweet Home includes Song Kang as Hyun-su and Go Min-si as Eun-yu, two residents of the Green Home building who first met each other a couple of hours before the monster outbreak began. Hyun-su and Eun-yu developed a strong friendship amidst the chaos of the monster attacks in Sweet Home season 1, and there were hints that they would become a couple.

However, in season 2, Eun-yu and Hyun-su only had a few scenes together. Fortunately for those looking for more of Song Kang and Go Min-si, Sweet Home was not their first show together. Song Kang’s K-dramas on Netflix have built a reputation of their own, the first being a 2019 romantic comedy that also featured Go Min-si. With Sweet Home season 3 releasing later in 2024, Love Alarm is the perfect K-drama to watch while waiting for the returns of Hyun-su and Eun-yu.

One year before Sweet Home, Song Kang and Go Min-si starred in Love Alarm, which was also a Netflix original K-drama. Song Kang played the lead role of Hwang Sun-oh, whereas Go Min-si played the supporting role of Park Gul-mi. Love Alarm tells the story of a group of high schoolers and their romantic relationships in a world where an app called “Love Alarm” can tell whether someone close to you is in love with you. The series, which was created for Netflix and ran for two seasons, also starred Kim So-hyun as Kim Jo-jo and Jung Ga-ram as Lee Hye-yeong.

Song Kang’s character in Love Alarm is a rich, successful model who has returned to South Korea to finish high school. His best friend Hye-yeong, is clearly in love with Kim Jo-jo. However, things get complicated once Hwang Sun-oh also falls in love with Jo-jo. Sun-oh and Jo-jo kiss at the end of episode 1, setting the stage for a dramatic love triangle. To make things more complicated, Go Min-si’s character, who is Jo-jo’s cousin, has a crush on Sun-oh and believes he is supposed to be in love with her.

How Love Alarm Compares To Sweet Home

Sweet Home is about monsters; Love Alarm is about love triangles

Love Alarm and Sweet Home are both Netflix original K-dramas featuring Song Kang and Go Min-si, yet they could not be more different shows. Whereas Sweet Home is a horror story with elements of science fiction and supernatural storylines, Love Alarm is a romantic K-drama that includes some of the genre’s most popular tropes. While there are romantic relationships and even somewhat of a love triangle in Sweet Home, the series is defined by its scary monsters and the mystery surrounding the curse. Love Alarm, on the other hand, is defined by its many love triangles.

Song Kang’s Sun-oh is a more traditional romantic K-drama lead in Love Alarm, but what truly makes him interesting is the complicated dynamic between him and his best friend.

That said, for those familiar with Sweet Home, it is interesting to see how different the characters played by Song Kang and Go Min-si in Love Alarm are compared to Hyun-su and Eun-yu. Go Min-si’s character in Love Alarm can be considered a villain, at least in the first season, serving as the antagonist to the stories of Jo-jo and So-hyun. She is one of the school’s most popular students, which is why she believes Sun-oh is going to like her. Instead, Gul-mi’s Love Alarm reveals that one of the “losers” of the school is the one in love with her.

Love Alarm's Main Cast Actor Character Kim So-hyun Kim Jo-jo Jung Ga-ram Lee Hye-yeong Song Kang Hwang Sun-oh Go Min-si Park Gul-mi

Song Kang’s Sun-oh is a more traditional romantic K-drama lead in Love Alarm, but what truly makes him interesting is the complicated dynamic between him and his best friend. Both Sun-oh and Hye-yeong are in love with Jo-jo, but the latter will not admit it at first. Sun-oh is very loyal to his friend, yet he finds himself in a difficult position when Hye-yeong won’t admit that he likes Jo-jo too. Sun-oh’s story in Love Alarm may have lower stakes than Hyun-su’s in Sweet Home, but it is a compelling romantic drama that fans of the genre will enjoy.

What To Expect From Song Kang & Go Min-si In Sweet Home Season 3

Song Kang and Go Min-si are both in Sweet Home 3

Song Kang’s Hyun-su and Go Min-si’s Eun-yu will both return in Sweet Home season 3, which has been described as a “grand finale” for the show. Sweet Home season 2’s ending saw Hyun-su and Eun-yu reuniting after almost a year in which Song Kang’s character was nowhere to be seen. Eun-yu believed that her brother was the one watching over her from the shadows, yet it was Hyun-su the one protecting her. Although a reunion between those two characters should have been a happy moment, it turned out to be a bittersweet one.

Hyun-su learned from Eun-yu that many of their friends had died during the one year he was away, including Ji-su. Additionally, at the end of season 2, Hyun-su’s monster alter ego took over. The final episode of Sweet Home season 2 ended with “evil Hyun-su” ironically asking Eun-yu where she would like to go in a rather scary scene. It’s unclear where Hyun-su and Eun-yu are going next, but they will eventually reunite with Eun-hyeok, as revealed by the first official Sweet Home season 3 clip. Eun-yu’s brother was alive after all, yet he is now a neo-human.

Will Hyun-su & Eun-yu Get Together In Sweet Home?

Sweet Home has yet to have a definitive main couple

Sweet Home’s Hyun-su and Eun-yu are not a couple in the webtoon that inspired the show. In the source material, Hyun-su is much closer to Ji-su, a storyline that was not brought into the Netflix show. Instead, the live-action series preferred to pair Hyun-su with Eun-yu, although they have yet to become an actual couple. Sweet Home has teased that Hyun-su and Eun-yu have feelings for each other and will end up together, but after season 2, it’s difficult to imagine it will happen.

Firstly, Hyun-su and Eun-yu have spent a lot of time away from each other. Additionally, Park Chan-young, one of the characters introduced in Sweet Home season 2 after the time skip, clearly likes Eun-yu and spends most of the season by her side. Either way, Eun-yu and Hyun-su do not have many friends left, and even if they do not become romantically involved, their friendship remains one of the most important character dynamics in the show. Regardless of how the story plays out, Sweet Home season 3 will surely deliver great moments between Song Kang and Go Min-si.
