Go! Go! Loser Ranger! Reminds Viewers That Its Villains Weren't Always Evil

Warning: Contains Spoilers Go! Go! Loser Ranger!

Summary The Dragon Keepers are not necessarily villains, but the actual threat is the powerful Executives.

Executives seek to rule Earth, are too strong for regular Rangers, and threaten Fighter D's ambitions.

Fighter D shifts from an antihero to fighting the Executives as the common enemy, deepening the conflict and intrigue.

For those watching the first season of Go! Go! Loser Ranger! it's becoming increasingly clear that, while Fighter D might not believe it, the Dragon Keepers may not be so evil or even villains. This is to be taken with a grain of salt, especially given certain members' penchant for violence and the Ranger force at large recruiting members who are prone to violence.

Still, as the anime develops and continues to adapt the manga, the original villains of Go! Go! Loser Ranger! might become more like assets against a common enemy. Go! Go! Loser Ranger! focuses on the story of Fighter D, a Duster or Fighter from the Monster Army whose alien invader race once sought to take over Earth.

However, after war with the Dragon Keepers seemingly wiped out almost all of their kind, the Fighters were kept around for their shapeshifting qualities to create "monsters of the week" for the Keepers to defeat in a TV show designed to appease the masses. One force, though, may not be genuinely exterminated as the true villains begin to surface.

Seen in Go! Go! Loser Ranger! Episode #5, Hibiki Sakurama confides in Fighter D about how he was rescued by the Blue Keeper, who warded off the deadly assault of a mysterious monster. This monster, called God by his worshipers, including Hibiki and Sesera's parents, is Peltrola. Peltrola is a member of the most evil faction to reveal themselves on-screen, the Executives. By comparison, Hibiki recognized the heroism of the Blue Keeper from that era, Rikuto Aoshima, who took Hibiki and Sesera in at an orphanage he started before he retired.

Rikuto passes the mantle on to another Blue Keeper who, despite a gruff demeanor and similar contempt for invaders, cares for and respects his comrades in contrast to the current Red Keeper. The Pink Keeper is only guilty of following the trope of the sister obsessed with his brother. The Green Keeper's personality has yet to be adequately revealed in the anime, but it's true to form, as without spoiling anything, he likes to stay low-key. At the same time, the Yellow Keeper is similarly misunderstood and hasn't made a substantial appearance yet.

Executives Are the First True Villains in Go! Go! Loser Ranger!

Remnants of the Monster Army's Glory Days Wish for a Dark Vision of Earth

With Peltrola's form first revealed in recent episodes and visions of a dystopian future under their leadership teased in Chapter #44 of the manga, the Executives break the morally gray streak of the show. These enemies are so powerful that regular Rangers and cadets like Hibiki are no match for them, while Dragon Keepers stand a fighting chance. It's also revealed that twelve of them correspond with the signs of the Zodiac, with hints at multiple survivors from the war, including Peltrola.

It's also important to note that while the Dragon Keepers may not be all villainous, the real Hibiki Sakurama sees how many of them have become jaded or corrupted and wishes to shed light on this.

The Executives would rule Earth with an iron fist, to Fighter D's chagrin. His perspective on this, wishing to rule the Earth on his terms, does not paint him in a heroic light but makes him more of a likable antihero who suddenly sees Executives as the common enemy. He'll fight the Executives numerous times, even earning respect from the Rangers he infiltrates, plunging him deeper into a web of subterfuge. Beyond the Executive villains, though, the actual threat to Earth in Go! Go! Loser Ranger! is the ever-present specter of war.
