Hades 2: How To Find (& Beat) Chronos, Titan of Time (Boss Fight)

Chronos, the Titan of Time, is the final boss in Hades 2 and the greatest challenge that Melinoe will face yet. The Princess of the Underworld has plenty of reasons to seek revenge against the Titan, and this final fight is simmering with anger. This final hurdle is not easily overcome, even with all the boons and upgrades from the previous three zones.

This final clash between Melinoe and Chronos takes place in a very familiar location for veterans of the original game, the House of Hades. After plenty of taunting along the way, Melinoe finally has the chance to seek revenge against the Titan and reclaim her family’s ancestral throne. This won’t come easy, as Chrono’s moveset is significantly more challenging to master than any boss that comes before him. To kill Chronos, you need time, patience, preparation, and knowledge.

Where To Find Chronos In Hades 2

Chronos is found at the end of Tartarus in Hades 2. This is the final region of the game that you unlock after defeating Headmistress Hecate, Scylla & the Sirens, and the Infernal Beast in Erebus, Oceanus, and the Fields of Mourning respectively. Like all other capstone bosses in Hades 2, facing Chronos marks the end of your journey throughout this zone and bestows you with a rare reagent and powerful rewards.

Unlike other zones, the path to Chronos faces Melinoe with a choice. You can either take the express route directly toward Chronos or take a longer route. The longer path to Chronos is filled with rewards that are double to triple the number of previous zones.

If you feel under-equipped for this final match, then you should heavily consider taking the longer route. The express route speeds through Tartarus, with only three chambers between you and the final boss. If you take this path, there will be no room rewards until the final area before the boss.

How To Beat Chronos In Hades 2

Close

Most bosses in Hades 2 have anywhere from three to six total moves that they tend to switch between, with only slight alterations between phases. Chronos has 16 unique attacks and two health bars that you need to burn through. If you find phase one challenging, phase two is even more punishing as the boss has multiple instant-kill moves. Although you can pass by most boss fights in Hades 2 without much knowledge beforehand, this is not the case for Chronos.

You cannot pause the game during this fight. If you try, Chronos will mock you and force you back into the fight.

Chronos Phase One Moves

Move Description Scythe Frisbee This attack has a quick wind-up and fast release. Chronos throws his scythe in a wide semicircle. Dash inward to punish this move and deal quick hits before his next attack. Dash Attack Chronos quickly dashes directly toward Melinoe’s location and simultaneously strikes in a line with his scythe. The scar that his blade leaves behind turns into exploding AoE sigils. Shield A frequent move by Chronos. The Titan shields himself with time-sigils that damage Melinoe if she gets too close. You can still deal damage with ranged casts, but it’s best to wait this out and take out any additional enemies while this shield is active. Enemy Summons Another shield move by Chronos. The boss will enter the center of the House of Hades and summon up to six Satyrs. It’s imperative to eliminate these additional enemies as fast as possible. If you take too long, Chronos will break his shield and continue the fight with these enemies still active. Orb Projectiles Oftentimes while shielded, Chronos will summon a spiral of golden orb projectiles. These take up the entire arena and are extremely difficult to dodge. The spheres expand out, but then retract in. Scythe Reel-In Chronos attempts to reel in Melinoe by spinning his scythe rapidly, creating a vortex that pulls in the player. Even if you’re initially caught in the attack, you can still dash out. At the end of the attack, Chronos releases a quick, damaging projectile arc. Try to dash around Chronos and punish this attack as much as you can. Scythe Arc A straightforward, outward cleave from Chronos’ scythe. Similar to the dash attack, the area where the blade struck leaves behind a scar that turns into AoE explosives after a short delay. Dash in out during the wind-up, and then inwards to deal damage to Chronos. Banners Near the halfway point of the first phase, Chronos summons up to four banners around the map that spread out a blue AoE effect. If Melinoe is caught in this effect, then you are slowed and vulnerable to Chronos’ attacks. Dome Trap Chronos summons a golden dome aimed at Melinoe. If you are caught inside, then you are momentarily ensnared inside the trap. You can still attempt to dodge attacks, but it’s much easier for Chronos to get a free hit.

Chronos Phase Two Moves

After Chronos’ first health bar has been depleted, he teleports himself and Melinoe to a new, wider arena outside of the House of Hades. This is where the fight gets challenging. Although Chronos has an entirely new move set, he still borrows from his initial Scythe attacks. Along with learning the new attacks in the portion of the fight, expect to see his Scythe frisbee, arc, reel-in, and dash attack.

Move Description Instant Kill Scythe Swing Chronos starts off the fight with a fast, instant kill attack that deals 999 total damage. The arena completely darkens aside from one small area illuminated by a golden glow. To avoid a run-ending strike, dash and remain in this sigil until Chronos releases his strike. Perimeter Blast The Titan of Time flies to the middle of the arena and stands still as the outskirts of the arena begins to glow. Remain close to Chronos and deal damage until the blast goes off. Platform Explosions In this attack, Chronos marks the majority of the arena with golden circles that all explode after a short delay. Chronos himself stands under one as well. Find a gap in the sigils to safely avoid damage. After the explosions, the sigils become ensnaring traps that will briefly root Melinoe. Platform Clock Hands Two large horizontal clock hands appear on the map, dividing the arena. After a delay, these explode and deal damage. This is pretty easy to avoid but typically occurs whenever Chronos is using another move from phase one. Tick Platform Clock Hand This is another platform attack. Instead of two clock hands, there is one that appears in the center of the arena and slowly ticks across the entire battlefield. Again, this is just another added layer of complication to the fight as you try to dodge Chronos’ other moves. Enemy Summons Chronos shields himself, moves to the center of the arena, and summons up to five minions. Upon death, these minions create another form of ensnaring traps. These minions are easily dispatched. Enclosing Rings This is a wide platform attack wherein two massive rings spawn on the outer edges of the arena. Slowly, these rings begin to close in, centered on Chronos. To avoid damage, you need to dash before these rings touch you.

Best Build To Defeat Chronos In Hades 2

The key to beating Chronos in Hades 2 is speed. Apollo and Hermes by far give the best boons to deal with this challenging boss. The windows to punish Chronos are incredibly small, so Swift Strike and Swift Flourish allow you to make the most of these opportunities. Apollo’’s Blinding Spring, Nova Strike, and Extra Dose all increase the power and frequency of your attacks, making the most out of every strike.

The Umbral Flames, Argent Skull, Witch Staff, and Sister Blades are all great weapons to enter this fight with. No matter your weapon of choice, it’s best to get Aspects or Daedalus Hammer upgrades that either increase your attack speed or weapon range.

Chronos has plenty of short and long-ranged attacks, so staying at a comfortable mid-distance is essential to avoiding damage and getting off quick attacks. This is by far the most challenging fight in Hades 2, and slaying Chronos requires you to exercise caution and aggression simultaneously.
