A new Starfield Easter egg seems to be teasing the game's upcoming expansion, Shattered Space. This content had been announced prior to Starfield's original launch, as it was included in the Deluxe and Constellation editions of the game, but little had been officially revealed about it until recently when Bethesda's Todd Howard confirmed that it would be launching in Fall 2024, almost a year after the main game.

As spotted by Redditor Grey-Hat111, there is a message scrawled on a wall saying "They are coming", surrounded by what appears to be House Va'ruun imagery and a painting of an alien.

Throughout Starfield's campaign, players can run into House Va'ruun zealots and can learn more about the house's beliefs and home planet, Va'ruun'kai, which is located in a star system so secret that not even Va'ruun agents are trusted with its coordinates and have to be picked up once their leaders deem their missions completed. With Bethesda's promises that Shattered Space will have new story content and will take players to new planets and locations, it seemed like a natural choice that players would finally get to visit House Va'ruun's mysterious headquarters.

While no story details have been confirmed yet, there was a brief glimpse at Shattered Space in a recent development update video that very subtly confirmed that House Va'ruun will be playing a part in the expansion's story. The footage showed a developer working on a purple planet that is most likely Va'ruun'kai as it doesn't match others seen in the game so far, and is filled with new structures, with the asset information that appeared on-screen all briefly mentioning House Va'ruun. Therefore, with the House Va'ruun imagery in Grey-Hat111's post, it seems more likely that this is teasing the new content.

The inclusion of an alien head in the corner of the artwork is also interesting, as despite having several animalistic aliens, Starfield has yet to introduce an intelligent alien species. If this is a tease for Shattered Space, it's possible that this type of alien species could appear in the expansion too, making for a more varied galaxy, rather than one conquered by humans.

Now that Shattered Space is confirmed to be arriving in Fall 2024, it would make sense for Bethesda to begin increasing its promotion for the expansion through both in-game teases and promotional material. Hopefully, players will get to see more of the latter soon and get more concrete information surrounding its story to get a better idea of what's in store for Starfield.
