Fans of the franchise should rest easy that the RPG is being created by a team who are extremely well-versed in Planet of the Apes lore. The project is being led by Andrew E.C. Gaska, who wrote two official Planet of the Apes novels, and whose work as lead narrative designer on the popular Alien and Terminator RPGs has won him several awards. Other notable members of the team who have previously worked on the franchise include Rich Handley, writer of Timeline and Encyclopedia of the Planet of the Apes, Greg Cox, who wrote the official War for the Planet of the Apes movie novelization, David Walker, who has worked on the Planet of the Apes comics.

The RPG consists of four primary components. Firstly, there is the 300+ page Core Rulebook, which features artwork by Marvel Comics artist Bill Sienkiewicz and contains all of the rules, statistics, and lore necessary to introduce new players to the world of Planet of the Apes. A separate sourcebook, The ANSA Files, provides references and resources specific to the classic films and novels.

ANSA stands for American National Space Administration, an agency of the United States government that was split from NASA to minimize the risk of communist infiltration into their highly experimental research, as revealed in the Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes novel.

The Forbidden Zone Campaign Adventure Box contains an assortment of supplemental tools and content such as maps, player markers, 12 6-sided dice, a reference screen, statistic cards, and a campaign adventure book, and lastly, the Ruins of Tomorrow Miniatures Set, which is exclusive to Magnetic Press and features several human and ape characters, along with further exclusive stretch goals such as the ANSA astronaut spaceship, a Statue of Liberty dice tower, and more.

For tabletop gamers who enjoyed the classic Planet of the Apes movies, this title certainly seems like one to watch. Currently, the title is listed as "Coming Soon" on Kickstarter, but players can sign up now to be notified when it launches to ensure they get these exclusive perks.
