Summary Jett Reno in Star Trek: Discovery was inspired by Han Solo and brings comedic relief to the show with her one-liners.

Tig Notaro, who plays Reno, was surprised by the comedic aspect of her character and credits the writers for the funny lines.

Reno plays a crucial role in helping unlock the final clue to the Progenitors' treasure in Star Trek: Discovery season 5.

Star Trek: Discovery's Commander Jett Reno was created with a "Han Solo vibe," says Tig Notaro. After joining the cast of Star Trek: Discovery in season 2, Notaro's snarky Starfleet engineer joined the USS Discovery's crew in following Commander Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) on a one-way trip to the 32nd century. In Star Trek: Discovery season 5, Reno has proven invaluable in helping unlock the location of the final clue to the ancient, live-giving technology of the Progenitors.

Tig Notaro joined Screen Rant for an upcoming exclusive interview about all things Commander Jett Reno in Star Trek: Discovery. Notaro was asked to join Discovery's cast by her friend, Star Trek executive producer Alex Kurtzman. Despite her celebrated career as a comedian, Notaro explained that Reno's funny one-liners come from Star Trek: Discovery's writers, and Kurtzman created the character with Han Solo's vibe "folded in" because Alex knew Tig was a lifelong fan of Star Wars. Read Notaro's quote below

It's 100% the writing. That was one of the fun surprises. I didn't know my character was going to be comedic. I mean, I guess I knew maybe there was the possibility, because Alex knew that I was a Star Wars fan. I think he said that he watched and listened to a lot of my stand up and kind of folded in the vibe of Han Solo, in the character as well. And so, when I was reading the scripts, I was truly laughing out loud because I couldn't wait to say these lines. I've run into people all the time... In fact, I did a corporate gig last night in Denver and a couple of the people at the meet and greet were asking me, ‘Do you riff? Do you write these lines?’ No, I don't at all. Really, all of it is the writers.
