Netflix's Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal documents the data breach of the Canadian online dating service Ashley Madison and how it affected the famous vlogging couple, Sam and Nia Rader. The 2024 Netflix documentary features three episodes covering the infamous Ashley Madison data breach in July and August 2015, which occurred when an anonymous group that called itself "The Impact Team" hacked into the website and stole its user data. They announced what they had done and threatened to release the information if Ashley Madison didn't shut down. The company refused, so, more than 60 gigabytes of user data was leaked.
All three episodes of Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal, featuring Sam and Nia Rader, are available to stream on Netflix.
Of course, the release of personal information was sensational in and of itself, but the nature of Ashley Madison made it all the more scandalous. Ashley Madison marketed to married people seeking an affair — its slogan was "Life's short, have an affair," which is the name of the first episode of Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal. Consequently, those who cheated on (or intended to cheat on) their spouses were made public, including Sam Rader.
