The Acolyte Season 2 Teased By Star Wars Producer, Almost 3 Weeks Before Season 1's Release

The Acolyte Season 2 Teased By Star Wars Producer, Almost 3 Weeks Before Season 1's Release

Summary Producer Rayne Roberts hinted at season 2 of The Acolyte already being in the works, even before season 1 premieres on June 4th, 2024.

The Acolyte will have a clear ending for season 1 but will leave room for more stories in the Star Wars universe to be explored.

The new show is set in the High Republic Era and promises to introduce new characters, political stories, and the rise of evil forces.

Three weeks ahead of Star Wars' newest TV show, Star Wars: The Acolyte, one producer has already teased season 2. The Acolyte is set 100 years before the prequel trilogy in the Star Wars timeline, making it the (current) earliest project among Star Wars movies and TV shows. Updates on The Acolyte have been rolling in leading up to the show's June 4th, 2024, release date, but producer Rayne Roberts may have just signaled that, even before season 1 premieres, season 2 is underway.

In an interview with SFX Magazine, Star Wars producer Rayne Roberts indicated that season 2 of The Acolyte could already be in the works. Indicating that possible story ideas for a potential second season are already being passed around, Roberts said:

"We've got to get back into the writers' room for season 2 to see where we're at. We have some initial thoughts about what we want to do, but in terms of where the story will ultimately wrap up, that hasn't been quite nailed down yet."

Although season 1 of The Acolyte won't premiere for another few weeks and its reception is yet to be revealed, this development is a very exciting one both for the upcoming show and for the larger Star Wars franchise.

The Acolyte Season 1 Seems To Have An Ending... With A Lot Of Possibilities

In the same interview where Rayne Roberts highlighted thoughts about season 2, Simon Emanuel, another Star Wars producer, revealed that The Acolyte will have a clear ending for season 1, but it will also make room for the show to continue. Emanuel explained:

"We want to make sure this season has an ending—some catharsis—but you always want to leave the door open. We've talked about where the story could go, and Leslye has so many ideas—and like anything, if something's successful, you can bet you'll find other stories within it."

These updates from both Roberts and Emanuel are promising for The Acolyte, and they make good sense given the tremendous number of stories The Acolyte will open up. As a brand-new Star Wars era to be explored on screen, The Acolyte will be introducing innumerable new characters and with them, unique stories. Moreover, while some of the show's plot points are driven by the prequel trilogy, there's undoubtedly much to explore in the High Republic Era.

There's undoubtedly much to explore in the High Republic Era.

For one, alongside the Jedi being in their golden era, the Republic was experiencing a peak period. This means that a number of political stories could be explored, including prominent senators at the time or, perhaps, even some groundwork being laid for Palpatine's eventual rise to power. In addition, it's clear just from the teaser and trailers alone that an evil is growing. Surely, whatever form that evil takes, it will open the door for fascinating new stories.

Although the exact story details for season 1 won't be revealed until The Acolyte premieres on June 4th, 2024, it's thrilling to know that Star Wars producers are already thinking ahead and planning for season 2. This is certainly a wonderful sign of the potential the show is bringing to the franchise, which is perhaps no surprise given the innovation the show represents both in the timeline and in stories. Truly, as Star Wars' next TV show, Star Wars: The Acolyte is already set up to be an incredible addition.
