Wonder Woman vs. Superman Cover Art for DC vs. Vampires: World War V Declares Diana Prince the Winner

Jae Lee Card Stock Variant (DC vs. Vampires: World War V #1)

Lee and Chung’s variant depicts an unnaturally pale-skinned Wonder Woman with red, pupil-less eyes, soaring upwards. She carries the decimated form of a similarly vampirically-inclined Superman, bound in her Lasso of Truth. Superman’s state of decay is so advanced that it's difficult to determine if the Man of Steel is still "alive." Regardless, the image evokes strong emotions, seeing Clark Kent in such a defeated state. However, some fans may struggle to muster sympathy for Superman, given the tyrannical monster he became as a vampire.

Despite Superman's death in DC vs. Vampires: All-Out War, at the hands of Deathstroke/Deadman, Lee's art still tells a compelling story. Superman being bound in the Lasso of Truth suggests that Diana and Clark were engaged in a conflict, or at the very least, were on opposing sides. With Wonder Woman appearing healthy while Superman looks anything but, it's evident that the Amazon-turned-vampire emerged as the victor in their encounter. Unfortunately, fans won't witness this showdown come to life in the upcoming storyline, considering Clark is dead (at least as far as fans know).

Jae Lee’s Vampire Wonder Woman Variant Cover Evokes Déjà Vu For Fans of Dark Knights of Steel

Dark Knights of Steel, a Fantasy Elseworlds Tale by Tom Taylor

This isn’t the first instance of Superman being successfully bound by Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth in an Elseworlds tale. In Tom Taylor’s Dark Knights of Steel, Kal-El also found himself subdued and contained by Diana’s lasso. Interestingly, Superman remained unable to free himself until Cassandra Cain intervened and untied him. This highlights two key points: firstly, both Dark Knights of Steel and DC vs. Vampires adhere to the notion that even the Man of Steel cannot break free from the Lasso of Truth. Secondly, whenever Wonder Woman manages to overcome Superman, it invariably involves her Lasso of Truth.
