FFXIV Gets One Of Its Weirdest Crossovers Yet Ahead Of Dawntrail's Release
Summary Mountain Dew is teaming up with FFXIV to offer players exclusive in-game items and real-life prizes through a promotion.
By purchasing specially marked bottles of Mountain Dew and entering the code found on the lid, players can unlock neat prizes like a hilariously named mount.
This unusual collaboration is part of the lead-up to FFXIV's upcoming Dawntrail expansion, bringing new content and a graphical update to the MMO.
Final Fantasy XIV is known as being one of the largest and often most bizarre MMOs on the market but its latest crossover promotion may be one of its weirdest marketing collaborations yet. Having said that, it's fairly common practice for brands to approach popular video games and offer unique in-game items that can only be accesed by purchasing a can of Monster Energy or a packet of Doritos. Yet it's rare to see a game so steeped in fantastical mythology and deity-slaying heroes be the face of such a campaign.
Per a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mountain Dew is partnering with Square Enix to offer FFXIV players an opportunity to snag some fun in-game cosmetics and real life items by simply drinking bottles of the drink.
All users need to do is purchase specifically marked bottles of the soda and enter the code that can be found on the underside of the lid to unlock some neat prizes. It's worth noting though the campaign is only running in the United States and Guam, but on the plus side it's running all the way through to 2025 so players don't need to chug their drinks immediately.

What Does Mountain Dew Unlock In FFXIV?
Some Cool Cosmetics And An Excellently Named Mount
Of course, the promotion wouldn't be all that exciting without some interesting prizes. Fortunately, the points collected by gathering Mountain Dew's codes can be spent on some great items, the best of which is easily the Mountain Zu, a hilariously named mount. Additionally, some of the more expensive prizes include a copy of Final Fantasy XIV - Starter Edition, a large desk mat, and a couple of special prize cups out of which the Dew can drunk.
There are also plenty of in-game items that can be unlocked by spending Mountain Dew's points, including the Sparkling Citrus Refreshment item that grants an XP boost as well as the aformentioned mount which will be available until July 14. Speaking about the campaign, FFXIV director Naoki Yoshida thought the Mountain Zu name, which was pitched by Square Enix's Western branch, sounded like a perfectly bad joke. He also said it's the kind of humor that would be used in Japan, making it an even better fit for the game.
Final Fantasy XIV is currently gearing up for the launch of its massive Dawntrail expansion that's currently slated to arrive on July 2. The DLC will introduce a wealth of new content into the MMO, including a new continent, even more quests, and two extra jobs. Perhaps most exciting though is the major graphical update that will arrive with the DLC which is expected to spruce up a game that does look somewhat dated by 2024's standards.
