The 2022 horror film Barbarian was a success both critically and commercially, wowing audiences with its suspense and originality. Now, this next feature will also be a horror film and will tell a story about a series of mysterious disappearances of high school students in a small suburban town.
Barbarian is currently available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.
Speaking with Collider, Brolin hypes up the upcoming film Weapons. Brolin said multiple times that the script for Weapons is fantastic or “brilliant” as he referred to it as. He also said that the cast for Weapons is fantastic, praising several of the lead actors. Brolin said that his “choice [to join the project] felt better and better and better and better with each following day.” In addition to these high compliments, Brolin shed light on the production schedule for the film, saying that the team is “doing it in May, June, July.” Check out Brolin’s full quote below:
I really liked his first movie, but it’s still new for him and all that. Then I met him a couple of times and we talked through what he was thinking. It’s a really good script, first of all. He’s put together a really good cast, especially now - Julia Garner, who I love, and Alden [Ehrenreich], who’s great, who I did Hail, Caesar! with. There’s a lot of really good people involved. This was one of the few times when I finally went, ‘Okay, let’s do this.’ — and I think I was avoiding work anyway, just generally — when I said, ‘Yes, let’s do this,’ my choice just felt better and better and better and better with each following day. I’m super excited about doing this. We are doing it in May, June, July, and I just talked with him yesterday. I’m serious when I say I think it’s a really brilliant design of a script. Brilliant.
Who Is In the Cast of Weapons?
Brolin joined the Weapons cast after the lead role had originally gone to The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal. From the sounds of his quote, it seems like Brolin is immensely happy that he did so, as he called the script “brilliant” more than once. Weapons is also an exciting return-to-form for Brolin, whose career took off initially in the horror genre, with films like Mimic. Brolin has not been steadily involved in horror since Grindhouse in 2007, so Weapons will be a great chance for him to explore horror again.
In addition to Brolin, the cast of Weapons includes Julia Garner, Benedict Wong, Alden Ehrenreich, Amy Madigan, Austin Abrams, and Cary Christopher. Garner and Wong both are seasoned and talented actors. Garner is best known for her Emmy-nominated role in Ozark, whereas Wong’s notable filmography includes work like Annihilation, Doctor Strange, and The Martian. As Brolin mentions, Ehrenreich and him are former collaborators on the lavish Coen brothers film Hail, Caesar!. The actor is also known for his starring role in the Star Wars prequel movie Solo: A Star Wars Story.
The exact roles that these actors play in Weapons are as of yet unknown. Younger actors such as Abrams will probably play some of the missing high school students, or their friends. Brolin, Garner, or Wong could all be playing parents of some of the high school students that are missing, or some other community members. As a horror film with multiple intertwining stories, Weapons is likely to be an ensemble piece and luckily, it already has a great cast to support that.
