Brolin is a true natural in westerns, as seen in Outer Range season 2. The praise for him in Outer Range season 2 is a reminder to watch his True Grit movie from the Coen Brothers, which was nominated for 10 Academy Awards back in 2011. True Grit is a remake of the iconic 1969 western of the same name starring John Wayne, and features performances from Brolin, Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and a breakout star in Hailee Steinfeld. Despite all of the outstanding films and blockbuster movie events that Brolin has been a key part of, True Grit remains to be his highest-rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes. This may seem surprising given all the acclaimed movies he's been in since the acclaimed western, including both Dune movies and Endgame. True Grit has a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score while Dune: Part Two has a 92% and Avengers: Endgame has a 94% rating. True Grit's box office made an impressive $252 million worldwide but is nowhere near the monolithic $2.8 billion of Avengers: Endgame.
What's even more surprising is that True Grit has a higher score on Rotten Tomatoes than No Country for Old Men (2007), which some consider to be the greatest contemporary western movie ever made. No Country for Old Men, which was also written and directed by the Coen Brothers, won Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay in 2008, featured Brolin in a much more prominent role than he had in True Grit. Fans of Outer Range and True Grit should also check out No Country for Old Men to get the true "Brolin in western classics" experience.
