Leaked Upcoming Star Wars Game Will Be An 18-Year First That Fans Have Been Waiting For
Summary Star Wars fans can look forward to a new RTS game, a genre not seen in the franchise on PC for 18 years, since 2006's Empire At War.
Creative Assembly, known for Halo Wars 2 and Alien: Isolation, is reportedly working on Total War: Star Wars, set to bring back the RTS excitement.
With exclusive licensing deals ending, other developers are stepping in to create unique Star Wars games, offering fans a diverse range of gaming experiences.
A leaked Star Wars game could be an 18-year first for PC gamers, returning to a game genre that has become somewhat overlooked by the sci-fi franchise. After the exclusive licensing deal for Star Wars games at EA came to an end, many other developers have begun work on their own titles, each covering different types of genres that fit these studios' particular talents, such as Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment's open-world adventure, Star Wars Outlaws, Zynga's PvP arena game, Star Wars: Hunters, and Quantic Dream's cinematic, narrative-driven Star Wars: Eclipse.
A new report from DualShockers claims that Creative Assembly, the studio behind Halo Wars 2 and Alien: Isolation is working on a Star Wars game within its popular real-time strategy series, Total War. According to the report, this is one of three Total War projects in the works at Creative Assembly's main studio right now, and as these titles tend to be released annually, it's possible Total War: Star Wars is only a few years away from launch.

There Hasn't Been A RTS Star Wars Title On PC In 18 Years
The Last Star Wars RTS Was 2006's Empire At War
Close
This would be a huge win for RTS fans, as there hasn't been a new Star Wars title in the genre on PC in 18 years, since 2006's Star Wars: Empire At War. Prior to that, the likes of 1998's Star Wars: Rebellion or 2001's Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds showed that the Star Wars series was a perfect match for real-time strategies with its various factions, vehicles, and iconic locations to attack or defend across the galaxy.
Star Wars: Empire At War was set between the prequel and original trilogies, focusing on the fledgling struggle between the Empire and the Rebels, and currently has an Overwhelmingly Positive review score from over 30,000 players on Steam.
Some were hopeful that the freemium strategy game Star Wars Commander would change this in 2014, as it was planned to be released on Android and iOS mobile devices, as well as Windows Mobile and Windows 8 and Windows 10 PCs, but unfortunately, the Windows versions were canceled. With the game closing in 2020 as well, this has left players without a recent Star Wars RTS title to play, so Creative Assembly's Total War: Star Wars couldn't have come at a better time.
If Total War: Star Wars is only a matter of years away from its launch, hopefully, there will be some kind of official announcement for the title soon. For now, at least DualShocker's report should come as good news for RTS fans who have been waiting nearly two decades for a new Star Wars title of this kind.
