In Hades 2, Shades are a common ally to Melinoe. The crossroads are filled with Shades of various shapes, sizes, and purposes, but these ghostly apparitions can even become assets during combat. Shades won’t simply help Melinoe without any effort from her end, however, as players need to find a way to compel these potential allies.

Melinoe and Zagreus differ in many ways. Although Zagreus was concerned with eliminating Hades’ Shades, the Crossroads where Melinoe resides is filled with friendly, and some not-so-friendly, ghosts. Instead of attacking Shades while rampaging throughout the Underworld, Melinoe can compel these creatures to join her camp at the Crossroads. Players do not start out with this ability, as it needs to be unlocked through a special Incantation.

How To Craft The Tablet Of Peace In Hades 2

Before you can start recruiting Shades to help fight Chronos in Hades 2, you need to unlock a special Incantation tool. To unlock tools in Hades 2, you first need to visit the cauldron at the Crossroads, near Melinoe's Witch ally Hecate, and access the Night’s Craftwork Incantation. This is likely among the first Incantations that you’ll purchase, as it only costs one Moly. After this, you can visit the Gathering Tools table in the training room. The tool you need to compel Shades is called the Tablet of Peace.

To craft the Tablet of Peace, you need five silver and five psyche. Thankfully, both of these materials are easy to find. You can acquire silver readily in the first zone, Erebus, so long as you have the Crescent Pick. Psyche is a common room reward marked by a green, ethereal blob, which somewhat resembles ashes. You can also purchase Psyche from Charon whenever you visit the Styx boatman on your runs.

Now that you have the Tablet of Peace in your inventory, you’re ready to compel Shades. These ghostly creatures are prevalent throughout Erebus and beyond. Whenever you approach any green Shades near the edge of a given room, you will now be prompted with an option to compel. Simply press the corresponding button on your keyboard or controller to begin the process.

Much like Melinoe’s available weapons to wield, you can only hold one tool at a time. Before setting out on a run, make sure you have the Tablet of Peace equipped.

Unlike mining or fishing, compelling Shades has its own mini-game. To successfully compel a Shade, you need to press and hold the buttons that appear on your screen. It’s a pretty simple task, but ensure that you’re prepped to press or hold the right buttons. With this process complete, the Shade will be transported to the Crossroads which will help you gain more psyche on future runs in Hades 2.
