X-Men's Era-Defining War Finally Gets an Official Name, Cementing It's Place In History Books
Summary Welcome to World War Orchis: X-Men #34 dives deeper into the global battle that will change mutantkind forever.
Laura Kinney dubs the conflict perfectly - World War Orchis - as X-Men and Avengers fight against a dangerous enemy.
This isn't just another Marvel "war" - World War Orchis will reshape mutant existence for years to come.
Warning: contains spoilers for X-Men #34As the ultimate fall of Krakoa approaches, the war between the X-Men and Orchis finally has a proper name: World War Orchis. Given this new label by Laura Kinney in X-Men #34, World War Orchis is the perfect moniker for this horrifying reality, as the X-Men and Avengers - and even agents of Orchis - end up battling against Orchis across the entire world.
Over the past several decades Marvel has labeled many events as a "war," like Civil War or World War Hulk, but World War Orchis feels much more like a war than many of those past struggles, as mass factions on either side battle each other.

X-Men #34, the penultimate issue of the series from writer Gerry Duggan with artists Joshua Cassara and Romulo Fajardo Jr., follows various X-Men factions as they battle against the Stark Sentinels, M.O.D.O.K., and monstrous Orchis foot soldiers, in the final act of World War Orchis.
The X-Men's War Against Orchis Spans The Entire World
X-Men #34 sees Wolverine, Synch, Firestar, and Ms. Marvel battling against M.O.D.O.K., who has abandoned Orchis' original goals and used his deranged technology to transform Orchis soldiers into deformed monsters. Attempting to escape repercussions by fleeing to a small boat under "maritime law," the X-Men obviously attack anyways with Laura saying, "M.O.D.O.K. living on a cute little tugboat was not on my World War Orchis bingo card," the first time the phrase "World War Orchis" has been used. Laura's labeling of the war between X-Men and Orchis is perfectly timed, as this lore-altering era will certainly need a name for use in future textbooks.
It has recently been revealed to the X-Men, Avengers, and the human cohorts within Orchis that the AI faction of Orchis has been working against both humanity and mutantkind all along, attempting to reach ascension through a Dominion. Now, the X-Men, Avengers, and parts of Orchis - like Dr. Alia Gregor and Feilong - are all fighting a multi-front war against the remnants of Orchis. This battle is happening worldwide, with the Avengers hitting Orchis prisons throughout the planet, Iron Man battling the Stark Sentinels in Australia, and the X-Men fighting M.O.D.O.K. in New York City.
World War Orchis Is Changing The Future Of Mutantkind
Edited by Alex Schlesinger
Many of Marvel's "wars" have been forgotten quite quickly, with the Marvel Universe returning to the status quo after only a few months. What sets World War Orchis apart is that this war is completely shifting the future of mutantkind, destroying the mutant nation of Krakoa and forcing the mutants of Earth to recalibrate their entire existence. The X-Men's new From the Ashes era will deal with the ramifications of Orchis' actions for a long time, and upcoming comics will explore the sociological, political, and emotional impacts of World War Orchis.
World War Orchis is raging across all of planet Earth, as the remaining Orchis soldiers and the organization's manipulative AI factions continue to fight against the X-Men and Earth's other heroes. While World War Orchis will go down in infamy as one of the mutants' worst struggles, mutantkind will remain on Earth to fight another day.
X-Men #34 from Marvel Comics is available now in stores.
