27 years after X-Men: The Animated Series' finale in 1997, Morph was reintroduced to the world not as themself, but masquerading as Professor X in X-Men '97 episode 1, "To Me, My X-Men." This established Morph as a core member of the X-Men team, joking with their teammates by impersonating the group's former leader, who left the X-Men in 1997 to seek a cure for Henry Gyrich's energy disruptor. This was a brilliant reintroduction to Morph, who disguised themself as a walking Charles Xavier in the kitchen of Xavier's School, creating a moment of surprise before the truth was uncovered.

X-Men ’97 Episode 1, "To Me, My X-Men"

After the X-Jet is attacked by a Sentinel in the moments before X-Men '97 episode 1's final battle, the X-Men team are left falling to the ground, prompting Morph to transform into Angel. This allowed Morph to access Angel's power of flight, enabling them to save Wolverine while Rogue safely escorts Beast and Bishop to the ground. This was a great cameo, bringing back one of the original members of the X-Men team in his classic costume, and while Morph didn't have any speaking lines as Angel, this disguise proved pivotal in bringing all the X-Men to the ground safely.

Fred Dukes' Blob was a very surprising character for Morph to impersonate in X-Men '97's premiere episode, as the villain was seldom seen in X-Men: The Animated Series. Blob was previously featured as a member of the Brotherhood of Mutants, but in X-Men '97, Morph transforms into the oversized antagonist to allow Wolverine to use them as a trampoline, propelling him up to attack a Sentinel robot. After Kelly Hu's unfaithful adaptation of Lady Deathstrike in 2003's X2 in 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise, it was great to see a comic-accurate version of the villain appear in X-Men '97, even if only briefly as one of Morph's many faces.

In X-Men: The Animated Series, Betsy Braddock was a lone thief, and while she didn't join the X-Men team in the actual series, she did in the X-Men '92 Marvel Comics continuation, though this presumably isn't canon to X-Men '97​​​​​​​.

Former member of Team X and Wolverine's archenemy Sabretooth was an entertaining addition to X-Men '97 episode 2, particularly since the regular villain in X-Men: The Animated Series didn't actually appear in the revival series. Morph transforms into Sabretooth near the end of "Mutant Liberation Begins" to get Wolverine to engage with him, stressing how important connection is. Morph's transformation into Spiral in X-Men '97 episode 3, "Fire Made Flesh," is practically meaningless, as they only become Spiral for a few seconds while the X-Men are discussing the arrival of another Jean Grey. Spiral was introduced as a lieutenant to supervillain Mojo in X-Men: The Animated Series, and reappeared again in X-Men '97 episode 4, "Motendo", helping Jubilee and Sunspot return to the X-Mansion after defeating Mojo, having grown tired of her master's antics. Morph's appearance as Spiral was only for a few moments, but perhaps teased the character's return in Jubilee's video game in the following episode.

While Morph doesn't completely transform into iconic X-Men member Wolverine in X-Men '97 episode 3, "Fire Made Flesh," the shape-shifting hero does gift themself Wolverine's adamantium claws. This occurred during the calm before the storm of the Goblin Queen's attack on the X-Mansion, during which Morph seemed to suggest that they and Wolverine would get up to something in the shower. This moment began to tease the storyline of Morph's affection towards Wolverine, which was cemented in X-Men '97's finale, as Morph finally declared their love for Wolverine, though they did this disguised as Jean Grey while Wolverine was comatose.

It was fantastic to see Morph transform into Illyana Rasputina's Magik in X-Men '97 episode 3, particularly since the character's appearance in X-Men: The Animated Series introduced her prior to the emergence of her mutation. Illyana is the younger sister of Colossus, so did appear in The Animated Series, but was too young to display her gifts. The fact that Morph transformed into her during battle with the Goblin Queen in X-Men '97 suggests Magik has finally emerged, though the Goblin Queen takes control of the mutant hero, and forces them to change into Magik's dark alter ego, the Darkchylde.

Illyana Rasputina was voiced by Tara Strong in X-Men: The Animated Series, who went on to voice Miss Minutes and Mainframe in the MCU.

5 Pietro Maximoff’s Quicksilver

X-Men ’97 Episode 7, "Bright Eyes"

Quicksilver is one of the most recognizable mutants in Marvel's repertoire, so it was brilliant to see Morph use Pietro Maximoff's speedster abilities during battle with Bolivar Trask's Prime Sentinel in X-Men '97 episode 7, "Bright Eyes," though even Quicksilver's gifts were no match for the villain. The twin brother of Wanda Maximoff's Scarlet Witch, and the son of the Master of Magnetism, Magneto, Quicksilver didn't actually appear in X-Men '97. However, the speedster was revealed to be "off world" in X-Men '97's finale, suggesting that he and the Scarlet Witch will have bigger roles in X-Men '97​​​​​​​ season 2.

After the human-Sentinel hybrid Bastion enacted his Operation: Zero Tolerance plans in X-Men '97 episode 8, "Tolerance is Extinction - Part 1," news reporter Trish Tilby was activated as one of his Prime Sentinels. Her initial surprise attack on Beast, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Morph in the X-Mansion prompted the mutant shape-shifter to transform into Cain Marko's Juggernaut, the villainous step-brother to Charles Xavier's Professor X, hoping to use the villain's superior strength to defeat the Prime Sentinel. Unfortunately, even the Juggernaut's power proved inconsequential to Trish Tilby's Prime Sentinel, as she threw Morph through a wall, taking Nightcrawler with them.

Juggernaut was voiced by Rick Bennett in X-Men: The Animated Series.

The Hulk's appearance in X-Men '97 episode 9, "Tolerance is Extinction - Part 2," marks the second time the green Avenger has appeared in X-Men's animated shows, but not as himself. In X-Men: The Animated Series, the Hulk appeared as a Danger Room simulation to battle the Juggernaut, and in X-Men '97, Morph transforms into the Hulk to take down Bastion's Sentinels alongside Jean Grey, Beast, and Cable. Jean uses her telekinetic abilities to launch Morph as the Hulk up to the Sentinels' level, allowing them to easily bring the three Sentinel robots to their knees, after proclaiming, "Morph SMASH!"​​​​​​​

The Hulk had no speaking lines in either X-Men: The Animated Series or X-Men '97, but was voiced by Ron Perlman and Lou Ferrigno in other animated shows in the 1990s.

Morph used Reed Richards' elasticity abilities following the United States government's attack on Asteroid M, which saw Magneto's former base plummeting to Earth. Mister Fantastic never appeared in X-Men: The Animated Series, though had a major role in Marvel's other animated shows in the 1990s, and has now been confirmed to exist in the world of X-Men '97, shortly before the Fantastic Four's live-action debut in the MCU.
