All 5 Upcoming Guy Ritchie Movies Explained

Summary Guy Ritchie is set to release action film "In The Grey" in January 2025, featuring stars Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Ritchie's upcoming projects include "Fountain of Youth" starring Natalie Portman and John Krasinski, as well as "Wife & Dog."

Despite box office struggles with recent films, Ritchie remains one of Hollywood's busiest and hardest working directors.

Celebrated screenwriter and director Guy Ritchie has several highly-anticipated projects in various stages of production. Since helming the billion-dollar box office smash Aladdin in 2019, Ritchie has been on a filmmaking hot streak, churning out five films over a span of roughly five years. Although four of Ritchie's latest five films have received some of the best reviews of his career from critics and audiences alike, his latest film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare has yet to make a strong impression at the box office, earning less than $22 million after 4 weeks against its $60 million budget.

Despite the fan support of Ritchie's 2023 movies, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre starring Jason Statham and The Covenant starring Jake Gyllenhaal, both films failed to break even at the box office. Ritchie's popular 2019 film The Gentleman fared well at the box office, earning $115 million worldwide against a $22 million budget, while Wrath of Man's box office was less impressive, earning $104 million worldwide with a $40 million budget. The massive looming shadow of Aladdin's billion dollar box office makes it feel like Ritchie is due for another big hit, which could be one of his five anticipated projects.

Ritchie also currently has 2 television series in production, Young Sherlock and The Donovans, a Ray Donovan spinoff series.

5 In The Grey

Expected January 17, 2025

Jake Gyllenhaal and Henry Cavill, are teaming up for Ritchie's next movie In The Grey, an action film set for a January 2025 release. Eiza González, who was also in Ungentlemanly Warfare, will star in the new film as well. Ironically, Gyllenhaal and Cavill are the individual stars of his two most recent films, which were both two of his most positively rated movies by fans while also being box office bombs. In The Grey revolves around two extraction specialists, played by Cavill and Gyllenhaal, who have to plan an escape route for a senior female negotiator, likely González. The film will also star Fisher Stevens (Succession), and Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, Saltburn).

4 Fountain Of Youth

In Production

Fountain of Youth is a Guy Ritchie film currently in production starring Natalie Portman and John Krasinski. The screenplay is written by James Vanderbilt, who wrote David Fincher's Zodiac (2007) as well as the script for 2022's Scream. The film is set to be an Apple original and does not have a current release date. Per Deadline, Fountain of Youth "follows two estranged siblings (Krasinski and Portman) who partner on a global heist to find the mythological Fountain of Youth. They must use their knowledge of history to follow clues on an epic adventure that will change their lives — and possibly lead to immortality."

3 Wife & Dog

In Development

Ritchie's 18th feature film will be Wife & Dog, which is currently in development. While the details of Wife & Dog are currently under wraps, the film should be released by 2026 given Ritchie's highly efficient track record. All that is really known about Wife & Dog as of May 2024 is that it will be tied to the same universe as The Gentlemen, Ritchie's popular 2019 action crime comedy that became a hit Netflix series starring Theo James, which Ritchie also created. The cast of Wife & Dog has yet to be established, but more information should come out on the exciting Ritchie project later this year.

2 Hercules

In Development

The announcement that Ritchie had signed on for a live-action Hercules movie was first made back in 2022. Since then, there has been little word about the progress of the film. Joe and Anthony Russo of Avengers: Endgame acclaim are signed on as producers on the film, while Dave Callaham (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, The Expendables) is attached as the screenwriter.

The Hercules live-action remake has all the behind-the-scenes ingredients to make it a massive success, but has yet to reveal any of its cast members. This Ritchie project has no set release date and probably won't be released before 2027, since Disney's live-action remakes of Snow White (2025), Moana (2026), and Lilo & Stitch are ahead in line.

1 Aladdin 2

In Development

As if Ritchie didn't have enough on his plate, he is still signed on to direct a live-action Aladdin sequel, although the specifics on when that film will be released and even who will star in it remain a mystery. It's unusual that Aladdin's $1.05 billion box office hasn't fast-tracked it to an immediate sequel. Considering Ritchie is already juggling the live-action Hercules at the same time, it's puzzling to speculate how Ritchie can find the time or the creative juices to sustain five separate projects simultaneously, as well as two television series. While more information on Aladdin 2 is sure to come out eventually, Guy Ritchie has cemented himself as one of, if not the, hardest working director in Hollywood.
