Fallout: New Vegas: How To Get In Nellis Air Force Base

The Nellis Air Force Base is one of many notable locations in Fallout: New Vegas and is located on the northeast part of the map. The compound is the base of the Boomers tribe and is isolated from the rest of the wasteland. Outsiders are not welcome and will be killed on sight. Reaching such a heavily guarded location in one piece can be tricky. Luckily, the game supplies players with two ways to successfully access the Nellis Air Force Base.

The Boomers are a minor Faction in Fallout: New Vegas that can be recruited for the final battle. You will want every help you can get by the end of the game. Additionally, the Nellis Air Force Base offers several questlines that can reward a large amount of experience. Depending on your choices, you will gain positive or negative reputation with the Boomers.

Angering the Boomers will shut off any uncompleted questlines with them, missing out on experience and their help.

How To Get To Nellis Air Force Base In Fallout: New Vegas

Close

Once you arrive at the gates of the Nellis Air Force Base, you can talk your way inside. However, this is easier said than done because the Boomers will fire explosives at anyone who comes near their compound. When taking the road from Fields' Shack to the west, you will meet a man named George. He will explain that there are two ways to get to the Nellis Air Force Base alive.

Desolated Town

Outside the Nellis Air Force Base is a destroyed town that players can use as cover to reach the front gates. This can be rather hard to accomplish due to the aforementioned explosives. As soon as you are spotted, the Boomers will fire and most walls are not thick enough to block the explosions.

Stick to the tall walls and wait for the bombardment to subside, then make a sprint for the next cover. Even using a Stealth Boy will not work, so do not take unnecessary risk.

Abandoned Train Tunnel

George mentions that there is a tunnel that can be used to reach the Nellis Air Force Base. This can be used to save players the hassle of dealing with the shelling. However, the first option will be taken by most because the door to get into the Abandoned Train Tunnel requires you to pick a Very Hard Lock of 100. Inside, there are ghouls and some Frag mines, but otherwise a much easier path to the compound. Follow the train track to reach the Abandoned Train Tunnel.

When speaking to George, he mentions that he doesn't know of anyone who has made it back alive from the Nellis Air Force Base. You can bet some caps with him, and he will double the amount if you return. There is no quest marker for this interaction, but this will earn players a nice stash. Nellis Air Force Base should be visited by everyone as the Boomers are part of the brilliance of Fallout: New Vegas.
