Hades 2: Where To Find Cattails
Knives and staves are far from Melinoe’s only weapons in Hades 2, as the Witch of the Crossroads also supplements her abilities with various Incantations. These spells can unlock entirely new gameplay mechanics, but require reagents first. Cattails are one such reagent that can be grown in the Underworld.
Most reagents in Hades 2 are either found scattered throughout the various levels of the Underworld, traded for, or found off of enemy drops. Cattail is a unique reagent, as it is not found by clearing encounters and requires several pre-requisite Incantations before players can acquire this valuable greenery. Obtaining cattail is difficult, but not like gathering cinders or pearls, but instead it requires time, knowledge, and patience.

How To Get Cattail In Hades 2
You can only acquire cattail in Hades 2 by gathering cattail seeds and planting the reagents in your Underworld garden. Cattail seeds are found by using the Silver Spade tool on appropriate dig spots in the Oceanus zone. Oceanus is the second major zone in Hades 2, which only comes after you have defeated the Witch Headmistress Hecate. Once you have cleared an encounter in Oceanus, look around for any highlighted dig spots that have the potential to gift Melinoe cattail.
Ensure that you have the Silver Spade tool equipped before heading off to Oceanus. Much like weapons, only one tool can be equipped at a time.
The Silver Spade is an essential tool for gathering cattail seeds. You first need to unlock the Night’s Work Incantation to get this. This only costs one Moly, so you’ll likely get this as your first Incantation and it unlocks all tools and crafts, including fishing. Next, you must interact with the Crossroads cauldron again to receive the Flourishing Soil Incantation. This allows Melinoe to grow seed-beds at the Crossroads to farm her own Incantation and upgrade materials.
How To Use Cattail In Hades 2
Cattail is used for three total Incantations in Hades 2: the Purification of Fountain-Waters, Surge of Stygian Wells, and the Rite of River Fording. The Purification of Fountain-Waters increases the healing that fountains replenish by 10%.
Fountains are found at the end of every zone after boss fights, such as the clash with Scylla and the Sirens, and can be a much-needed refresh before your next zone. The Stygian Wells Incantation also empowers these transition rooms with a Well of Charon which gives an extra opportunity to spend your gold.
Incantation Reagents Purification of Fountain-Waters x1 Nightshade
x1 Cattail Surge of Stygian Wells x3 Moly
x3 Cattail Rite of River Fording x4 Driftwood
x2 Cattail
The Rite of River Fording Incantation is an excellent recipe to pursue if you plan on romancing any applicable character. This fixes the Crossroads fishing pier and allows you to invite another NPC to catch fish with. The Incantation grants you one Twin Lure but also increases your reputation with your selected character. If you want to view your reputation progress with any given character, then you should also consider pursuing Empath’s Intuition in Hades 2.
