How To Find (& Beat) Queen Lamia In Hades 2
In Hades 2, Melinoe is tasked with facing challenging bosses that cap off each major zone in the Underworld. Aside from the regular boss fights, there are also mini-bosses, such as Queen Lamia, that can appear along the way. This snake-like creature’s minions are commonly seen throughout the Fields region, but the Queen herself is much more of a challenge.
The Fields of Mourning in Hades 2 is easily among the more challenging zones in either game. This zone contains wide, expansive areas that force the player to scour for room rewards, encountering powerful enemies all the while. In most cases, mini-bosses are completely optional but beneficial to acquiring rarer boons. The Fields of Mourning contains two mini-bosses: the Phantom and Queen Lamia, with Lamia being the preference of many players. Given this optional mini-boss can be just as difficult as any other capstone enemy in Hades 2, it’s best to know what you’re getting into.

Where To Find Queen Lamia In Hades 2
Queen Lamia is found in the Fields of Mourning zone in Hades 2. The Fields of Mourning is the third zone that you will reach after defeating the Witch Headmistress Hecate in Erebus and Scylla and the Sirens in Oceanus. This zone is immensely difficult, as encounters are much longer with many more enemies present. It’s not all doom and gloom in the Fields however, as you receive far more rewards per room than in the other two zones.
You have the chance to face off against Queen Lamia if you elect to go into a mini-boss room. Unlike regular rooms, areas that contain a mini-boss not only display the Godly boon that you will receive for successfully clearing the encounter, but a skull icon to indicate the increased challenge. If you’re trying to acquire powerful boons before facing the Infernal Beast, then it’s best to try your luck against one of these bosses.

Close
The Queen Lamia encounter in Hades 2 is not explicitly difficult, but it can quickly become overwhelming and result in a lackluster ending for Melinoe if you don’t play it right. The Queen herself is stationed at the center of the room, while four other serpent casters remain near the four corners of the area. To reduce the amount of attacks you need to dodge, it’s best to take care of Queen Lamia’s minions before going for the mini-boss herself. To take on Queen Lamia, you should familiarize yourself with her move set.
Lightning Strikes - Queen Lamia and her minions all summon several red, vertical lightning strikes that travel throughout the arena. These remain active so long as the caster lives. Although you’ll need to constantly track Lamia, it’s best to dispatch the minions to reduce the amount of lightning strikes present.

Although you’ll need to constantly track Lamia, it’s best to dispatch the minions to reduce the amount of lightning strikes present. Seeking Projectile - Queen Lamia will also cast a slow-moving, seeking red sphere that tracks Melinoe. If it strikes you, then it will burst. The orb not only deals damage but also slows Melinoe.

Ground AoE Slam - If Melinoe attacks Queen Lamia for too long in melee range, then the mini-boss will eventually use her staff to perform a ground slam. This is fairly well telegraphed, but be ready to dodge in-and-out of Lamia’s range.
Once you have taken out Queen Lamia’s minions, the fight is significantly easier. It’s best to lure the lightning strikes and seek orb away from Lamia, then dash in to deal melee damage. Whenever the mini-boss raises her staff to prepare an AoE attack, dash back out and use your cast to deal damage until it’s safe to go in again. If you’re using the purely ranged Umbral Flames weapon, or the Witch Staff with an extended range, then you’ll already be safely out of range of her melee attack.
Both Queen Lamia and her minions all have armor to start the encounter. Striking an armored enemy won’t cancel a cast or attack, so be sure to prioritize breaking your opponent’s armor before going in for the kill.
Queen Lamia is also shielded and has armor, meaning that your damage against her is significantly lessened until her armor breaks. Once the yellow bar, which represents her armor, is broken, you can finally interrupt her attacks. Once Lamia only has her base health left, you can simply stand in front of her and spam attacks until the mini-boss goes down. Be sure to collect your upgraded boon before moving on to the next encounter.
Best Weapons And Boons To Beat Queen Lamia In Hades 2
Most weapons and general playstyles will work fine against Queen Lamia in Hades 2, but the Witch’s Staff and Umbral Flames work to exploit the mini-bosses weaknesses the best. Umbral Flames is a purely ranged weapon, which completely negates Lamia’s melee AoE attack.
This allows you to solely focus on dodging the orb and lightning strikes while dealing consistent damage. The Witch Staff, specifically when upgraded by the Daedalus Hammer, works even better. The extended range will still bait out Lamia’s melee strike, but you’ll never actually be in range for any damage.
Even if you use Demeter’s boons to Freeze Queen Lamia, this won’t stop her vertical lightning strikes from circling the arena. Make sure to lure these ranged attacks away from the boss before diving in for an attack.
For boons, either Hestia or Demeter have the best status effects to quickly dispatch Queen Lamia. The biggest hurdle in this fight is that Lamia cannot be interrupted for the majority of the encounter. The Freeze effect given by Demeter’s boons allows you to temporarily stun the serpent Queen and get off extra damage without consequence. Adversely, Hestia’s Scorch effect provides a well of consistent, supplemental damage that can help drain Queen Lamia’s shield.
If you’re having trouble taking down Queen Lamia, then Nemesis’ Keepsake, Evil Eye, is a good to acquire. With this Keepsake active, you deal increased damage to the boss or enemy type that ended your previous run. You can acquire this Keepsake, or any other, by gifting Nemesis a Nectar. With Queen Lamia’s reign briefly ended for this run, now all you need to worry about is bypassing the Infernal Beast to make it to the fourth zone in Hades 2.
