Outer Range season 2 officially confirms the show’s biggest Autumn theory after two years of speculation, but it also raises new questions and sets up new mysteries. The cast of Outer Range season 2 is led by Josh Brolin as Royal Abbott and Imogen Poots as Autumn, the latter of which was a mystery box in season 1. Among the many theories that tried to explain who Amy was in Outer Range, the most popular one argued that she was Amy from the future.
Josh Brolin’s Outer Range character, a man out of time, also started to believe that Autumn was Amy from the future. However, considering all the mysteries and twists featured in season 1, Autumn’s connection to Amy could have been just a red herring. Another popular theory was that Autumn was Royal’s sister, whom he abandoned after killing his father in 1886. Now, Outer Range has finally revealed Autumn's identity.

Autumn herself realized she was Amy
Close
Although Outer Range season 1 heavily implied that Autumn was Amy, it was only in season 2, episode 5 that the show officially confirmed they are the same person. Royal was sure at the end of the season that Autumn was Amy not only because of the scar on her head but also because of how strange things would happen anytime he, a time traveler, touched Autumn. However, Autumn didn’t seem so sure about Royal’s theory and even laughed at how he concluded so much based on a scar. Still, Autumn was Amy from the future after all.
Amy’s final scene in season 2 is where Autumn’s story begins.
It is important to notice that Autumn didn’t have memories from before the age of nine, meaning she was also trying to figure out who she was. After eating the mineral that came out of the Hole, Autumn saw her reflection in the mirror turn into Amy, which confirmed that they were indeed the same person. Additionally, at the end of Outer Range season 2, Amy wakes up in the future with her memories scrambled and wrongfully assumes that her name is Autumn. Amy’s final scene in season 2 is where Autumn’s story begins.
What Autumn Pushing Amy Through The Hole Means For Outer Range Season 3
Autumn and Amy’s life is a closed loop
After confirming she was the future version of Amy, Autumn concluded that she had to push the kid through the role so that Amy would eventually “become Autumn.” Autumn believes she has an important role to play in what is to come, which is why she needs to make sure her life plays out the way it is supposed to. Autumn comes from the future and has no memories of her life before she was rescued by strangers at the age of nine, which is exactly what happened to Amy at the end of season 2.

Amy’s journey into becoming Autumn seems to be a closed loop. Had Autumn never pushed Amy through the hole, Amy would have never been sent to the future and become Autumn. The process of traveling through time affected Amy’s memory, which explains why Autumn couldn’t remember who she was. Amy’s future is Autumn’s past, meaning Outer Range season 3 can reveal more about “Autumn” while exploring what happened to Amy in this future she was sent to. It’s unclear which year Amy was sent to at the end of Outer Range season 2.
