Though Seeking Sister Wife season 5 star Garrick Merrifield hides behind religion, he may just be a womanizer who's no longer satisfied with just one wife. The show first chronicled the lives of 40-year-old Garrick and his long-suffering wife, 36-year-old Dannielle Merrifield, during season 3 as they searched for a second wife to add to their family. They returned for season 4, during which they courted Roberta Pache.

However, after the season ended, the relationship fell apart. Roberta refused to move to the United States and kept taking money from the Merrifields. Still wanting to find a second wife, the Merrifields returned for Seeking Sister Wife season 5. They dated Nathalia, and Garrick proposed to her, but their wedding was halted by the Brazilian government and Dannielle's surprise pregnancy. Though Garrick has a desire for other women in biblical terms, it's plain to see that he's just a man who wants to cheat on his wife.

Before appearing on a reality TV show, Garrick and Dannielle were married for 11 years in a monogamous relationship. The couple's decision to transition from monogamy to polygamy stemmed from a particular reading of religion. Garrick and Dannielle aren't even Mormons; they're simply Christians. Garrick says he was inspired by the bible to open his marriage to additional wives. Without being affiliated with a specific sect of Christianity, Garrick cited God's embrace of people in the bible who were in plural marriages as part of his momentum to become a polygamist.

Though Garrick has selfishly dated several women in his pursuit of more wives, he has fallen in love with two women: Roberta and Nathalia. In addition to their taste in men, Roberta and Nathalia had a great deal in common. Both women lived in Brazil and spoke very little English. Garrick couldn't communicate with either woman without a language translation app.

Since Garrick couldn't communicate properly with either woman, it's hard to imagine that Garrick was interested in anything other than their looks.

Though they had a lot in common, one big difference between Roberta and Nathalia was age. Roberta was appropriately aged at 33, while Nathalia was only 25. Being 15 years Garrick's junior, Nathalia was closer in age to his and Dannielle's teen sons, Solomon and Geremiah Merrifield.

Garrick wanted to bring Roberta to the United States from Brazil, so, for immigration purposes, he had to divorce Dannielle to marry Roberta during Seeking Sister Wife season 4. This was difficult for Dannielle, who sobbed while signing the divorce papers ending her 13-year marriage. With their legal marriage dissolved, Dannielle would have no claim to Garrick's estate should anything happen to him. In the end, Roberta dumped them via text after stringing them along, so Garrick jeopardized his family's financial security for nothing.

During Seeking Sister Wife season 5, Nathalia confronted Garrick for continuing to use online dating sites after promising he'd delete his accounts.

When Garrick agreed to delete his dating profile to make Nathalia happy, Dannielle got mad because he refused to delete his profile when she had asked him to several months ago. "I said that to him in Colorado, and he disagreed with me, but as soon as Nathalia says it, it's like, "No Problem." Seeking Sister Wife season 5 found a less cooperative Dannielle than in seasons past, and she is fed up with him shrouding his womanizing ways in religion.
