2 Of The Most Streamed Shows Of All Time Are Officially Getting Spinoffs (With A Twist)
Summary Suits & The Office are getting spinoffs but not reboots.
Suits: L.A. & The Office's new show will both feature new characters.
Both shows broke streaming records but won't have proper sequels.
The Office and Suits, two of the most streamed shows of all time, are both getting spinoffs, but there is a twist. The confirmation that The Office’s new show is moving forward was hardly a surprise considering how massive the series has been on streaming over the last few years. Likewise, Suits: L.A. began to be developed shortly after Suits became a streaming phenomenon on Netflix. Both Suits’ L.A. spinoff and The Office’s new show are the confirmation of how massively popular these shows have been, particularly with a new generation of fans.
Per Nielsen, Suits was the most streamed show of 2023. Not only that, but Suits now holds the record for most streaming minutes in a year – 57.7 billion in 2023. This record was previously held by The Office at 57.1 billion total minutes in 2020. The Office and Suits went through a similar phenomenon in which network shows that had already ended became streaming hits years later. It is no coincidence that both shows are now returning with new projects, although neither of them is getting a proper revival or reboot.

Close
For years, the idea of a new The Office US project featuring the same cast seemed like something that was bound to happen, either in a movie, a TV reboot, or even an unscripted reunion. Likewise, Suits’ success on Netflix led many to believe that Mike Ross and Harvey Specter were eventually going to reunite in a Suits reboot. However, despite their massive streaming numbers, neither The Office nor Suits are getting actual reboots or sequels. Instead, the franchises are expanding with brand-new series set in the same universes as the previous ones.
The TV landscape has changed a lot since The Office and Suits were on the air, so it will be interesting to see how different the new shows will be compared to the original ones.
Suits: L.A., as suggested by the project’s title, will be set in Los Angeles instead of New York. The series will follow brand-new characters in a different firm, Black Lane Law, which will be focused on entertainment law rather than corporate law. The cast of Suits: L.A. includes names like Stephen Amell and Josh McDermitt, and whether any of the original Suits actors will appear in it remains to be confirmed. The Office’s untitled new show is doing something similar and will follow new characters in a different workplace, a dying midwestern newspaper.
Suits: L.A. has yet to be picked up for a full series.

Not having proper sequels to The Office or Suits may be disappointing for viewers who want to see more of those characters, but it might be for the best. Both The Office and Suits ran for nine seasons and had highs and lows. Some of The Office’s worst episodes happened in the latter half of the season, yet the finale was perfectly satisfying. Likewise, Suits struggled after the exits of characters like Jessica, Mike, and Rachel, yet it still delivered a great series finale at the end of season 9.
