Below Deck season 11’s new chef, Nick Tatlock, promised to bring his a-game to St. David, but according to one seasoned crew member, his skills are entirely underwhelming. Throughout Below Deck season 11, the crew has struggled with some pulling their weight while others excel in their positions. After Chef Anthony Iracane was fired for his less-than-reliable performance, even though his food was spectacular throughout the charter season, the crew was hopeful that their new chef would be able to succed where Anthony failed. Nick, who joined the crew in the last episode, may not be living up to expectations.

“Oh my god, what a disaster”

In a preview clip from Bravo’s Below Deck, Chief Stew Fraser Olender shared he has some issues with Chef Nick’s cooking after his very first charter service. “This is going too well,” Fraser joked as Chef Nick struggled with the breakfast service, before pulling his second stew Xandi Olivier into another room to discuss his performance.

“How do I not rudely say, ‘Are you going to garnish the plate?’” Fraser asked. He asked Xandi and Paris Field if they could check in, and while Nick explained that the primary didn’t want any oil on his plate, Fraser was outraged at the idea of the chef not using a different garnish. “Oh my god, what a disaster,” Fraser muttered to himself as he left the galley behind.

Below Deck’s Paris Field Calls Chef Nick “Weird”

While Fraser may be finding Chef Nick’s skills to be sub-par, stew Paris found his behavior odd. “Nick is weird as ***,” Paris explained, after Nick made some comments about the amount of mayonnaise she put on a wrap. “If I want to eat that, I’m working my ass off, I’m running around. Trust me, bro. I’m burning the calories.” While Nick and Paris’ interaction seemed joking in the moment, it was clear that Nick crossed a boundary by bringing up Paris’ weight. His inclination to discuss what she should or shouldn’t eat is a major red flag for the Chef.

Though Nick was brought in to make things easier for the Below Deck season 11 crew, it’s clear that his behavior hasn’t rubbed people the wrong way from the beginning of his time aboard St. David. Nick, who has been a chef for over 20 years, has enough experience to know how to interact with the crew aboard a superyacht. Rather than pushing the boundaries and commenting on more personal things, like their bodies, Nick should be keep to his work and staying professional whenever possible. He should already know how to behave aboard a superyacht with his experience level.

Although the charter season is nearly over, Below Deck season 11’s new chef should be able to adapt to life aboard St. David more easily. Even though coming in for the last stretch of charter guests can’t be easy, Nick’s issues haven’t been with his cooking, but instead with his behavior and misunderstanding of the authority figures aboard the superyacht. Though Nick has been a chef for longer than most of the yachties have been working in the industry, the Below Deck newbie should be following their lead when it comes to their day-to-day work.
