Don’t Expect A Manor Lords Roadmap, But There May Be Something Better

Summary No Manor Lords roadmap is planned for now, focusing on bug fixes & community feedback instead.

The developer is considering involving the community directly through a beta branch for transparency.

Despite the lack of a roadmap, the game's early access success and potential are promising.

Getting a Manor Lords roadmap would provide a lot of clarity for its early access plans, but what might end up happening instead could be a better alternative. Manor Lords stands out as a unique hybrid of city-builder games and battle tactics, and its early access is off to a strong start despite the game not yet being in a complete state. With no roadmap currently available, however, it's hard to get a particularly clear idea of where it's headed and how development is progressing.

Investing in early access games always requires some understanding of risk, as there's no guarantee that any planned improvements or expansions will ultimately come to fruition. In the case of Manor Lords, things generally look optimistic. Solo developer Slavic Magic has built a very impressive experience already after years of consistent work, and it seems unlikely that he would bail on any promises now after getting a major influx of funding from the early access release. It's already a more finished game than many early access releases regardless, even if it lacks some finer details.

A Manor Lords Roadmap Won't Be Coming Soon

Slavic Magic Wants To Adapt To Feedback

Close

Slavic Magic actually addressed the idea of a Manor Lords roadmap ahead of the game's launch in an update on Steam, and it appears that one won't be coming in the near future at any rate. The developer clarified that he doesn't yet have plans to release a roadmap based on past experience working on features "only to find out that the testers didn't care as much." For the first month, updates will be focused on addressing active issues and cleaning up bugs rather than adding new content, which will ultimately be based on community feedback rather than pre-determined plans.

A Beta Branch Could Be Better Than A Manor Lords Roadmap

More Direct Community Involvement Is On The Table

Slavic Magic has an interesting proposal in place of a Manor Lords roadmap — opening up a pre-release beta branch to give players hands-on access to what's being worked on. It's actually a more exciting concept, as it offers significantly more direct community involvement than a static timeline would. Even if this doesn't prove to be as immediately legible as a basic roadmap would be, the approach could allow for a more flexible approach to early access development that might end up strengthening the game in the long run.

All of these plans are ultimately still up in the air, so the way that Manor Lords early access development proceeds could go in any number of directions. Regardless, it might be a while before all the content additions become clear, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Manor Lords has a ways to go before it can fulfill on all of its exciting potential, but even without a roadmap, it's likely that the community will be able to have some form of a direct line to plans as they shift and evolve with the game's continued development.
