Latest Nintendo Switch 2 Rumor Is Great News For Handheld Players
Summary The Nintendo Switch 2 may prioritize longer battery life in handheld mode, sacrificing power when undocked.
Rumors suggest a faster-clocked system when docked for improved performance.
Take rumors with a grain of salt, as Nintendo has not confirmed specific details on the Switch 2 upgrades.
As the rumor mill regarding the so-called Nintendo Switch 2 continues to churn, the latest report suggests that users who prefer to use the hybrid device in handheld mode are in luck. One of the more common complaints regarding Nintendo's console is that the battery life can be lackluster, especially when players are trying to plow through an especially processor-intensive game that requires a great deal of power. Playing the Switch while it's plugged in is a solution to this issue but it does detract from the console's mobility, a key selling point.
This may change when the Nintendo Switch 2 eventually hits the market as the YouTube channel Moore's Law Is Dead stated on the Broken Silicon podcast that the company's next generation of hardware is trading power for battery life.
They explained that when the system is docked, it will be "clocked faster" than consumers may expect and will also boast a significantly longer lifespan when played in handheld mode. Unfortunately, there is a trade-off to this longevity as when it's undocked, the Switch 2 will supposedly be "clocked crazy low," suggesting a reduction in processing power.

Rumors Abound Regarding The Switch 2
Always Take Reports With A Grain Of Salt
It's worth noting that while Moore's Law Is Dead and their Broken Silicon co-host The Phawx do have some credibility when it comes to hardware rumors, it's always worth taking rumors with a pinch of salt. Nintendo has all but confirmed that it's currently developing its next console, but the company has yet to unveil any specifics regarding its build. Reports have swirled for years alleging that the new device will be able to support features like upscaled 4K resolutions when docked and an 8-inch LED display but none of these claims have been confirmed.
Whatever the case may be regarding the existence of a Switch 2, it's about time Nintendo looked into upgrading one of its most popular consoles of all time. Originally released back in 2017, it's become more and more evident that the hardware is beginning to age when compared to competitors like the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. It seems like every other major third-party AAA release for the Nintendo Switch is riddled with graphical downgrades that result in a product that's not only difficult to look at but tough to play.
The most recent rumors regarding the Nintendo Switch 2's release date claim that the console will hit the market in 2025 but it's worth remembering that many other reports were confident that it would arrive in 2023 or 2024. Nintendo is a notoriously difficult company to nail down when it comes to launches so players will just have to wait and see what the rest of the year may bring. Hopefully, the next hybrid device will be ready and waiting for everyone before 2025's holiday season.
