Baldur's Gate 3 Developer Larian Opens New Studio Working On "Two Very Ambitious RPGs"

Summary Larian Studios opened a new studio in Warsaw for two RPG projects, leaving Baldur's Gate 3 for fresh IPs.

The studio is not working on D&D content but focusing on new worlds.

There's currently no word on the nature of the two unknown RPGs.

Continuing to ride upon the high that was Baldur's Gate 3, developer Larian Studios is expanding as it opens an entirely new studio to assist with the development of its new projects. Following the news that the veteran role-playing game team would not be returning to the Forgotten Realms for Baldur's Gate 4, Larian has promised fans that it has no intention to leave the genre behind but is instead focusing on new ideas. Some were disappointed by the announcement but given the developer's track record, a fresh IP will likely be just as enjoyable.

Per Video Game Chronicle, Larian Studios announced that it's opening up a studio in Warsaw, Poland which will help in the production of two as-yet-untitled role-playing games. Describing the city as the "heart of Poland's lively gaming scene," Larian Studios Warsaw is the seventh studio to sport the name, joining the likes of the company's other branches in Ireland, Spain, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, and Canada. Given that the studio was just opening, Larian is currently looking to hire interested Poland-based developers eager to design what will likely be a massive role-playing adventure.

Larian Is Done With D&D

They May Be More Divinity On The Horizon

After announcing that it would not be adding additional story content to Baldur's Gate 3 nor working on some kind of expansion or DLC, Larian Studios noted that its decision to step away from Dungeons & Dragons was because the crew was itching to create something new. Having been in development for close to a decade, it's understandable that those who helped shape the fantasy RPG were tired of dwelling in the Forgotten Realms. Larian confirmed that the two projects it's currently working on are both original IPs but has yet to provide any information on the games themselves.

Before it found mainstream success with Baldur's Gate 3, Larian Studios achieved critical and commercial success with its long-running Divinity series, the last of which, Divinity: Original Sin 2, was released in 2017. Whether or not the two in-development games have anything to do with this series remains unknown but the community is hopeful that Larian will one day return to its beloved fantasy world. Based on official statements, it sounds as though the creative team is actively working on building brand-new worlds that aren't set in the Divinity universe.

While Baldur's Gate 3 may have proven to be a monumental success for Larian Studios, the community has lamented the fact that the developer doesn't plan on adding new content to the sprawling Dungeons & Dragons game. Fortunately, many creative players have taken to modding the experience, adding a plethora of custom races and classes to the already overloaded experience. Those on consoles will soon also be able to access this fan-made content as official mod support for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will be released in the near future.
