Summary The new DLC for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, teases a terrifying new boss, sparking excitement and speculation among players.
The community is already theorizing about the design and significance of the mysterious monster, hinting at its potential importance in the game.
With the expansion set to drop on June 21, the anticipation for Elden Ring's DLC continues to grow, promising a massive new adventure for players.
FromSoftware is gearing up for the launch of Elden Ring's DLC Shadow of the Erdtree and to get everyone a little bit more excited for the expansion, the studio unveiled what appears to be a terrifying new boss. Despite locking in a release date and showing off some of the new features in a brief gameplay trailer, the developer has yet to really delve into what players can expect from the DLC. Fortunately, as the release date draws near, more teases are surfacing across the internet as everyone prepares to take up arms as The Tarnished once again.
Posted to X (formerly Twitter), the Elden Ring account shared a single image of an unknown enemy, captioning the picture with "Fearsome foes of unfathomable power await you in the Realm of Shadow."
Details on the monster have not been released but the community has already started speculating as to its place in the game's lore. The grand, somber, intricate design of the monster, which sports what appears to be an ancient golden mask and a headpiece of dense horn, has led many to theorize that it will be one of the expansion's more important boss encounters.

Elden Ring's DLC Will Be Brutal
Expect To Die Over And Over Again
One of the more interesting interpretations of the as-yet-unnamed enemy is that its design resembles the general shape of the female reproductive system, although whether this is intentional remains unknown. Some have suggested that the creature's face plate could link it to the NPC aptly titled Golden Mask, but this seems like a surface-level connection that likely isn't accurate. The community will just have to wait until the expansion drops to learn how this morbid creature plays into the lore of The Lands Between.
Elden Ring's DLC has been a long time coming as the community has waited for the expansion ever since it was confirmed to be in development shortly after the base game's release in 2022. Exploring a new land that's roughly the same size as Limgrave, players will need to contend with new enemies and bosses but to even the odds, they'll also sport some incredibly powerful weapons. To better indicate the scale of the DLC, the base version of Elden Ring is a roughly 50GB install while Shadow of the Erdtree requires 60GB, suggesting that it will be massive.
Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is slated to arrive on June 21 and players are currently flocking back to the game in preparation. No doubt one of 2024's most anticipated releases, FromSoftware is known for putting out some of the most exciting expansions for its open-world RPGs; Dark Souls II is often said to have some of the best DLC content in the business. Elden Ring is currently available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
