Emma Stone's new movie Kinds of Kindness, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, has earned the Academy Award winner the second-best Rotten Tomatoes score of her career. Stone rose to fame in the role of Jules in Superbad, and since then, the Arizona-born actress has become one of the most successful stars in Hollywood. Stone is one of the most interesting actresses currently working in Hollywood, and the Easy A star has carved out a niche in complicated, layered, and darkly humorous storytelling in recent years, which looks set to continue with Kinds of Kindness. Stone's off-beat hits are not just limited to her work in front of the camera — her transition into producing has led to other quirky projects as well, such as the exciting A24 movies I Saw the TV Glow and Problemista. Stone will also reportedly star in Bugonia, a new movie from Lanthimos that will also feature her Kinds of Kindness co-star Jesse Plemons.

Kind of Kindness utilizes black and white scenes and seems to be as experimental as viewers have come to expect from Lanthimos. While anthology movies tend not to perform well at the box office, the movie's expansive and star-studded cast could propel it to success before Kinds of Kindness finds success on streaming, where it could well be better suited to viewers given its format.

Kinds of Kindness premiered at Cannes on May 17, 2024.

The movie is scheduled to be released in the United States on June 21 by Searchlight Pictures, and in the United Kingdom on June 28. Even though the movie is an anthology film, which is new ground for Stone as a performer, there is plenty of scope for her and Lanthimos to be able to craft the compelling and quirky characters and narratives that have served them so well to date, and Kinds of Kindness is another great example of this.
