Official MCU Video Game Is Currently In Development, Claims Leaker

Summary A new video game based on the MCU may be in development.

Reliable leaker Alex P. suggests the "MCU adjacent" game is happening.

The MCU has a history of tie-in video games, but many previous releases have been critical failures.

As Disney re-evaluates the current direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, it seems that a new game based on the sprawling superhero saga is currently in development. While the Infinite Saga may have reached its crescendo in 2019, the series of inter-connected films and streaming series continues to move forward despite criticisms that the quality of recent productions hasn't been up to scratch. The MCU may be a merchandising powerhouse that's been adapted into a multitude of cross-promotional products, but its video potential has yet to be truly tapped.

Over on X (formerly Twitter), reliable leaker Alex P. wrote that there is currently an "MCU adjacent" video game in development, suggesting that the project itself will exist within the MCU but won't actively contribute to the ongoing storyline.

Details on the game were not supplied and there's next to no other information provided, leading many to only speculate about the nature of the tease. It's worth noting that Alex P. and the outlet for which they write, The Cosmic Circus, have an 89% accuracy rating when it comes to leaks, meaning their information is likely solid.

Has The Ship Sailed On The MCU?

The accuracy of the claim remains to be seen but Alex P. is a relatively reputable source that has correctly predicted several substantial developments in many of Marvel Studios' recent productions. Whether or not the game itself is simply an adaptation of the existing franchise or a separate entity that tells a unique story within the same world remains to be seen. Having said that, the MCU isn't a stranger when it comes to licensing out its stories and characters for tie-in games.

Several early MCU films were turned into video games of varying quality, including Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor: God of Thunder, and Captain America. Arguably the most successful adaptation of the movie franchise was LEGO Marvel's Avengers which focused on turning the first two Avengers movies and a handful of their prequel films into LEGO-centric puzzle brawlers. Aside from these licensed tie-ins, most of Marvel's recent games have been standalone experiences that may draw inspiration from the MCU but have no bearing on the actual franchise.

Whether or not the Marvel Cinematic Universe is turned into a video game, there are plenty of alternatives for fans looking to beat up villains as their favorite heroes. Games like Marvel Ultimates Alliance 3, and Marvel's Avengers facilitate team-based action of the superhero world with aplomb while something like Marvel's Spider-Man delivers a more character-focused narrative. Additionally, there's even a multiplayer shooter titled Marvel Rivals that's scheduled to arrive in the very near future.
