Why ABC Should Make The Golden Bachelor In Paradise
Summary Combining The Golden Bachelor and Bachelor In Paradise for more love stories and opportunities would be a great idea.
Potential Golden Bachelor In Paradise cast includes familiar faces and a setting in Boca Raton, Florida for year-round filming.
With the success of The Golden Bachelor, it's likely that Golden Bachelor In Paradise would be a hit if produced by ABC.
With the meteoric success of The Golden Bachelor, there are signs that ABC may sideline Bachelor In Paradise, but the producers should combine the two shows instead. The ABC series The Bachelor premiered in 2002, and has since spawned countless spin-offs, both stateside and internationally. Currently, The Bachelorette is filming, with former Bachelor contestant, Jenn Tran as the lead, and former Golden Bachelor contestant, Joan Vassos, was recently announced as the inaugural Golden Bachelorette.
Missing in the recent spate of franchise news is any sign of Bachelor In Paradise, which has led to confirmation that BIP has been quietly canceled by ABC. Part of the problem is that the last season of the unscripted dating show was a failure, resulting in no happy couples. Despite one bad season, producers should look for ways to salvage the show. One potential opportunity is to combine the two shows and produce The Golden Bachelor In Paradise, where elderly singles can date whilst frolicking on the beach.

The cast of The Golden Bachelor featured multiple break-out stars, including Leslie Fhima, Kathy Swarts, Faith Martin, and Susan Noles. But there were plenty of other wonderful older single women who would be great additions to a potential Golden Bachelor In Paradise. Currently, The Golden Bachelorette is in pre-production, but once the show airs, there will be a plethora of single older men to choose from as well. If the show can't pull enough cast members from each cast, they can also sprinkle in some new faces.
While Bachelor In Paradise is filmed at a luxurious Mexican beach-side resort, Golden Bachelor In Paradise should be filmed in the holy mecca of retirement; Boca Raton, Florida.
In addition to differentiating the shows and being more theme-appropriate, filming in Florida would mean that the show can film almost any time of the year, due to Florida's year-round warm weather. This would mean it never had to compete with production scheduling for one of the other Bachelor franchise shows.

The World Needs More Love Stories

The inaugural season of The Golden Bachelor ended with Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist getting engaged. Gerry, the widower and retired restaurateur, had hit it off with multiple single women during the season but eliminated all but Theresa and Leslie Fhima. Though Gerry told both of the final two women that he loved them, he ultimately gave his final rose to fellow widower Theresa and sent a heartbroken Leslie home in tears.
Gerry and Theresa wasted no time planning their Golden Bachelor wedding. Despite the revelation that Gerry had been in a serious relationship prior to filming, the couple announced they'd be getting married in just a few short weeks on national television. The dream wedding aired on January 4 in a highly anticipated television special attended by Bachelor Nation personalities, including the women Gerry rejected. The couple seemed so happy, and their story gave people hope about finding love later in life. Sadly, Gerry and Theresa recently announced their divorce, just a few months after their dream wedding.
Bachelor In Paradise would create more couples, and therefore more opportunities for happily ever afters.
Though Bachelor In Paradise has created more successful matches than any of the other Bachelor properties, season 9 was a disaster. Though three couples left the show hand-in-hand, all three announced their split within a week of the finale airing on ABC. Kylee Russell and Aven Jones didn't get engaged at the end of the season, but they left paradise together as a couple. Their relationship ended because Aven cheated on Kylee. Two couples left the beach engaged; John Henry Spurlock and Kat Izzo, as well as Aaron Bryant and Eliza Isichei.
The two engaged couples announced their break-ups within hours of each other, soon after the Bachelor In Paradise season 9 finale had aired.
Would Golden Bachelor In Paradise Be A Hit?
Undoubtedly, Yes

Considering The Golden Bachelor was such a huge hit, there's every reason to believe that Golden Bachelor In Paradise would achieve the same success. Some of the show's success is that it's different from everything else that came before. Up until The Golden Bachelor, reality dating shows had always focused on very young contestants. Even a show like MILF Manor pairs older women with younger men. And the MILFs on the show were in their 40s and 50s, therefore quite a bit younger than the women of The Golden Bachelor.
This was the first unscripted dating show to focus entirely on an older cohort.
Another reason The Golden Bachelor season 1 was so successful is due to basic demographics. The majority of audiences watching network television are baby boomers, so it's no surprise that an older audience would be more interested in watching shows starring people who look like them. Chances are excellent that the same audience would be just as interested in a version of the show with even more contestants who look like them, and more chances at late-in-life love stories.
Will ABC Make Golden Bachelor In Paradise?
It Depends

There aren't any signs that ABC has any intention of making Golden Bachelor In Paradise. That could change in the future, but it depends almost entirely on the success of The Golden Bachelorette. There is some concern that the crushing disappointment of Gerry and Theresa's divorce will turn some people off from watching any version of the show again. If Joan's season is as big of a hit as Gerry's season was, there's no question that producers would at least consider making The Golden Bachelor In Paradise. They'd be crazy not to.
