1 Of The Witcher's Biggest Problems Will Be Good For Ciri In Season 4
Summary The Witcher season 4 will address major challenges and focus on Ciri's dark story for character growth.
Main characters Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer have not spent much time together in the series.
Ciri won't reunite with Geralt and Yennefer until season 5 as individual storylines develop.
Netflix’s The Witcher has faced different problems since its first season, and one of its biggest ones will continue in season 4, but it will be good for Ciri (Freya Allan). Based on the book series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski, Netflix’s The Witcher quickly became one of the streaming giant’s most popular titles, but it also became one of the most divisive ones. The Witcher has taken too many creative liberties that haven’t been well-received by fans of the books and video games and that have ultimately affected the show’s quality and its characters.
The Witcher season 3 fixed some of season 2’s problems by being more loyal to its source material, but season 4 is still facing some major challenges. The Witcher season 4 will be Liam Hemsworth’s debut as Geralt of Rivia and will prepare the ground for the show’s final season, so it’s an important opportunity for the show to fix some of its biggest problems. However, one of its biggest and most criticized problems will continue in season 4, but this time, it will be good and even necessary in Ciri’s story after the cliffhanger ending of The Witcher season 3.
The Witcher Has Kept Geralt, Ciri, & Yennefer Separated
The Witcher Hasn’t Spent Much Time With Its Main Family Together
Close
Despite the source material for The Witcher season 2 requiring Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer being together, they didn’t reunite until the very end of the season.
The Witcher’s main characters are the title monster hunter Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill and Liam Hemsworth), sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Cintran princess Ciri. The Witcher season 1 followed their individual journeys in a confusing non-linear timeline where, right at the end, Ciri and Geralt finally found each other while Yennefer disappeared during battle. The Witcher season 2 explored the dynamic between Geralt and Ciri as they traveled to Kaer Morhen, while Yennefer struggled to get her powers back.
Despite the source material for The Witcher season 2 requiring Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer being together, particularly the latter two as they form a daughter/mother relationship, they didn’t reunite until the very end of the season. The Witcher season 3 seemed to be on the path to finally having all three together and exploring their family dynamic, but it didn’t seize their time together – and by the end of the season, they were all separated once more: Ciri was transported to another dimension, Geralt was recovering, and Yennefer formed the Lodge of Sorceresses.
Because of all this, one of the biggest criticisms of Netflix's The Witcher is that Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer have spent most of their time separated, making some of their bonds in season 3 hard to believe, as they haven’t spent enough time together. This is expected to continue throughout season 4 as based on the books (Baptism of Fire is the one supposed to be the basis for this season), but this time, it will be necessary.
Ciri On Her Own Will Push Her To Mature In Season 4 (But In A Dark Way)
Ciri’s Story Is Taking A Dark Turn In The Witcher Season 4
Ciri, then, is expected to have a dark storyline throughout The Witcher season 4, which Allan has teased to be “brutal” as Ciri is “sick of the world being brutal” to her.
Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri have gone through a lot in their lives since before the events of season 1, but since season 2, all eyes have been on Ciri. The Lion Cub of Cintra was trained by witchers and showed her skills in season 3, but the final episodes of the latter set up a massive, dark turn for her. Alone, lost, and confused in another dimension, Ciri gave up her powers and found herself being taken away by bounty hunters. At the end of The Witcher season 3, Ciri was rescued by the Rats, who encouraged her to fight her kidnappers, killing one of them.
Ciri introduced herself as “Falka”, marking the beginning of one of her most controversial storylines from the books: her time with the Rats. Ciri, then, is expected to have a dark storyline throughout The Witcher season 4, which Allan has teased to be “brutal” as Ciri is “sick of the world being brutal” to her. Ciri doesn’t know where she is, nor do Geralt and Yennefer, so this will force her to grow up and mature too fast and too aggressively given the circumstances (and as Allan puts it, “not necessarily in the most healthy way”).
This will be key for her future storylines, as Ciri needs to learn more about herself, her powers, and her potential, which will all be necessary in her quest to reunite with Geralt and Yennefer as she’s about to meet some dangerous enemies.
Ciri Most Likely Won't Reunite With Geralt & Yennefer In The Witcher Season 4
The Witcher Will End With Its Fifth Season
Following the books, Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer will have some interesting individual storylines that are necessary for their development before they finally reunite.
Although every season of The Witcher so far has had Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer together, even if briefly, that most likely won’t be the case in season 4. Following the books, Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer will have some interesting individual storylines that are necessary for their development before they finally reunite. With this in mind, Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer won’t be together again until season 5, and per the books, their long-awaited reunion won’t have a happy ending. Until then, Ciri needs time apart to grow up and become stronger, as she’s about to face some dark storylines.
