Summary The Garfield Movie debuts to a 49% on Rotten Tomatoes.

This score is disappointing but still an improvement over the two Bill Murray adaptations from the early 2000s.

The Garfield Movie has the potential to repeat the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The Garfield Movie has now debuted on Rotten Tomatoes, and the film is a big improvement over the Bill Murray movies. Directed by Mark Dindal, Pratt voices the eponymous orange cat in the upcoming film, with actors like Samuel L. Jackson, Ving Rhames, Hannah Waddingham, Nicholas Hoult, Snoop Dogg, and Cecily Strong rounding out the rest of the Garfield Movie cast. The movie is the latest adaptation of the iconic American comic strip character after two live-action movies in 2004 and 2006 in which Murray voiced the titular cat.

Ahead of the film's theatrical release, The Garfield Movie debuts on Rotten Tomatoes to a lackluster 49% with 37 reviews, as of this writing. This isn't a particularly strong score and it will likely continue to fluctuate as more reviews are added, but the film does currently beat both 2004's Garfield: The Movie and 2006's Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties. Check out a chart comparing the scores for the three films below:

Title Rotten Tomatoes Critics' Score Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score The Garfield Movie (2024) 49% TBD Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties (2006) 12% 43% Garfield: The Movie (2004) 14% 38%
