CSI: Vegas Star Expresses Interest In Playing Her Character Again: "It's Not Gone Yet"

Summary Pauline Newsome expresses interest in reprising the role of Maxine in the future.

The cancellation of CSI: Vegas doesn't rule out the return of Maxine to the franchise, as CBS may develop a new show.

With successful crossovers and character returns in the past, Newsome's return as Maxine in a future show seems possible.

CSI: Vegas star Pauline Newsome reveals she'd be willing to play the character of Maxine again, despite the show's cancelation. CSI: Vegas is the fifth series in the CSI franchise, serving as a reboot of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. The show stars Newsome as Maxine Roby, head of the Las Vegas Crime Lab, and features the return of William Peterson, Jorja Fox, and Marg Helgenberger, who reprise their roles from the original show. Intended as a limited series, it eventually ran 41 episodes and concluded with the season 3 finale, which aired May 19, 2024.

Long-running franchises often bring original characters, especially in any crossover episodes, which CSI: Vegas did with the return of legacy agents such as Gil Grissom and Catherine Willows.

CSI is one of the most popular franchises on American television, airing in multiple countries around the globe and scooping numerous accolades in the process. As such, there is a chance that CSI: Vegas will not be the final curtain call for the franchise, with reports even surfacing that CBS is developing a new CSI show, despite Vegas being canceled due to apparent budgetary constraints. This means that Maxine could return in a future show.

Long-running franchises often bring original characters, especially in any crossover episodes, which CSI: Vegas did with the return of legacy agents such as Gil Grissom and Catherine Willows. Due to the show's history with crossovers and character returns, this adds the possibility of Newsome and her character coming back to the franchise in a future show. Newsome already shared her interest in reprising the role, so scheduling would be the only factor left to determine her return.

Regarding a new CSI spinoff, it is unclear at this point what direction it may take. However, the cancelation of CSI: Vegas means that the franchise would need a fresh start, which might prompt CBS to either move in an entirely new direction or adopt the classic series' original approach of a procedural story each week. CSI remains one of the most successful and popular intellectual properties on television, so it seems only a matter of time before a new show will be released.
