One Cobra Kai Season 5 Scene May Hint At The Winner Of The Johnny vs. Daniel Debate
Summary After embracing one crucial Mr. Miyagi's lesson, Johnny may now have a significant edge over Daniel in fighting skills.
Johnny's newfound strength from his family makes his season 6 arc promising for redemption and growth.
The Johnny vs. Daniel debate is yet to be resolved, but a Cobra Kai season 5 scene might have already hinted at who between the two would win in a fight. In the original Karate Kid movies, Daniel proved he was a better fighter by beating Johnny in the All-Valley Karate Tournament finals. In Cobra Kai, on the other hand, it is hard not to assume that the two characters may be somewhere on the same level in terms of karate skills because they have not had the opportunity to duke it out in a decisive one-on-one karate match.
They have had a few scuffles here and there, but none of them lasted long enough to determine a clear winner. However, a closer look at a pivotal scene from Cobra Kai season 5 highlights that one of the two senseis may have a significant edge over the other. This scene shows that the sensei has finally made up for his past insufficiencies and has the potential to outclass his childhood rival.

During Cobra Kai season 5's climactic showdown, Johnny Lawrence gets overpowered by Silver's team of senseis. However, just when it looks like he has lost the showdown, he sees his sonogram and single-handedly takes down multiple enemies. This scene highlights that Johnny now has one thing he always lacked: a profound reason to fight. Johnny should technically be ahead of Daniel when it comes to fighting skills since he started karate way before him. However, despite having a solid karate foundation, Johnny struggled to beat Daniel in the original Karate Kid film because he was driven by vanity.
...After fighting for all the wrong reasons throughout his life, Johnny is now deriving his strength from his family, which makes him stronger than ever.
Daniel, on the other hand, gained the upper hand in the movie because Mr. Miyagi kept him grounded. However, after fighting for all the wrong reasons throughout his life, Johnny is now deriving his strength from his family, which makes him stronger than ever. Considering how Daniel defeated Silver in Cobra Kai season 5's ending moments, he still cannot be underestimated. But the fact that Johnny has grown from a self-centered fighter to a loving family man proves he has learned Mr. Miyagi's most valuable lesson:
If karate used defend honor, defend life, karate mean something. If karate used defend plastic metal trophy, karate no mean nothing.
Johnny's Newfound Strength Makes His Season 6 Arc More Exciting
Johnny Can Finally Rectify His Past Mistakes
While Daniel LaRusso's story arc has progressed by leaps and bounds in the last few Cobra Kai seasons, Johnny Lawrence's narrative has barely moved forward. Almost throughout season 5, he struggles to keep a stable job despite understanding his responsibilities to his family. Although he helps Robby and Miguel bury their beef, he never truly apologizes to Robby for not being there for him. However, after the season 3 scene, where he finds strength from his familial ties instead of his resentment and anger towards his past failures, Johnny sets himself on the right path toward turning his life around.

Johnny's arc will likely go through several ebbs and flows even in Cobra Kai season 6, and he will struggle to fix his past mistakes. However, it seems likely that he will finally take a few steps closer to becoming a better father and sensei. Since Cobra Kai was initially more about Johnny Lawrence and less about Daniel LaRusso, hopefully, season 6 will give him the optimistic conclusion he deserves.
Cobra Kai season 6, part 1 is scheduled to be released on July 18, 2024, followed by part 2 on November 24, 2024. The show ends its run with a third part which will arrive on Netflix in 2025. Each part consists of five episodes.
