Pokémon TCG: Shrouded Fable Illustration Rares Are A New Level Of Creepy

Summary The Dusknoir evolutionary line of cards in Pokémon TCG: Shrouded Fable is reminiscent of slasher movies.

Two of the new cards also have a powerful gameplay effect, even if they have negative consequences.

The hope is that most of the Night Wanderer cards will bed adapt into the Shrouded Fable expansion.

Three new Illustration Rare cards for Pokémon TCG’s Shrouded Fable expansion have been revealed, showcasing a new level of creepy, even for Ghost-type standards. Shrouded Fable is a new expansion set to arrive in August, adapting a portion of the Night Wanderer expansion coming to Japan in June. The collection will be centered around Kitakami’s Mochi Mayhem epilogue for Scarlet and Violet, with Pecharunt and the Loyal Three at the forefront. While the release of Pokémon TCG: Shrouded Fable is still a ways off, the cards being revealed for Night Wanderer give some insight as to what can be expected.

It just so happens that three new cards for the upcoming set have been announced. As reported by Pokebeach, Dusknoir’s evolutionary line in Night Wanderer has been revealed, along with the Illustration Rare versions of each of the three cards. Duskull, Dusclops, and Dusknoir are all showcased with the regular print and their Illustration Rare versions on the website – though their Illustration Rare versions boast a creepy story told through the artwork. Through it, it is possible to see Duskull stalking a neighborhood and, as it evolves in the Pokémon TCG cards, it starts approaching a house.

New Cards Also Have A Powerful Gameplay Effect

The stalking presence of Duskull wandering the streets, which then focuses on a house when it evolves into Dusclops, is exemplified by its presence near the hedges surrounding a backyard with a soccer ball and a hose. This is further showcased once it evolves into Dusknoir, who then enters the backyard and starts looking into the house via a glass door. The mini story being told via the Illustration Rare versions of these three new Night Wanderer Cards for Pokémon TCG is reminiscent of slasher movies, such as the Halloween series with Michael Myers.

“The hope is that most of the Night Wanderer cards will be adapted into the Western expansion later this year.”

In addition to the reveal of the cards and their special artwork that is bound to attract collectors in pursuit of the complete evolutionary line, the cards themselves are also quite good. Duskull is capable of bringing other Duskull from the player’s Discard Pile onto the Bench, though the strong effects lie with its evolutions. Dusclops has an Ability called Cursed Bomb that allows the player to, once per turn, put 5 damage counters on of the opponent’s Pokémon – and if this is done, Dusclops is Knocked Out from the match in Pokémon TCG.

The Dusknoir card for Night Wanderer, which may make it into the Shrouded Fable expansion, has the same Cursed Bomb ability. However, instead of putting 5 damage counters, Dusknoir can put 13 damage counters on an opponent’s Pokémon. Effectively, this can deal 130 damage to a Benched creature and is a strong sniping ability that can offset the opponent’s strategy. It can be a great finishing move – if the player is winning, they can force their draw of Prize Cards through this tactic, for instance.

The Cursed Bomb ability does come with risks, as having Dusclops or Dusknoir Knocked Out will also grant the opponent a Prize Card draw.

These three cards are only a few in a series of new reveals that are leading up to the Night Wanderer set’s release in early June. The hope is that most of the Night Wanderer cards will be adapted into the Western expansion later this year, such as the new discard-focused Pokémon TCG Shrouded Fable cards.
