Predecessor Brawl Mode Preview

Summary Predecessor's Brawl mode adds faster cooldowns and shorter matches for streamlined gameplay.

Aurora, the 36th Hero, introduces new strategies with icy abilities.

The update offers something for everyone: Brawl mode for beginners and Aurora for pros to explore.

Developer Omeda Studios has been hard at work iterating Predecessor, its free-to-play sci-fi MOBA shooter, adding new characters and Brawl mode, which is the perfect way for new players to jump in. Predecessor is looking to provide a refreshing experience with a new action-packed mode that is a great way to experience the diverse and multi-talented cast of playable characters - without being overwhelmed by the options, either.

Inspired by the MOBA title Paragon, Predecessor launched in Early Access this past March, where thousands of players have teamed up in its 5v5 matches. Since then, new Heroes have been added to the game every few weeks. Each has unique attacks and abilities that are most effective when combined with others, including the latest addition, Aurora, the 36th Hero. Predecessor's gameplay and classes may seem like a lot to jump into, but its new Brawl mode, launching May 21, 2024, will make it easier to try new characters and see why Predecessor stands out.

Stripping Away Some Complexity For A Good Ol' Fashioned Brawl

Brawl Matches Feature Faster Cooldowns & Shorter Matches

Standard Predecessor matches see two teams battle for supremacy by destroying defensive towers to infiltrate the enemy's space further. The main goal is to reach and eradicate the opposing team's core, which is secured in their base. However, defensive towers that can spawn increasingly powerful minions must be dealt with to progress. Large-scale battles with the towers, enemy players, and minions may intimidate players who are more familiar with team deathmatch multiplayer-centered games, but Omeda Studios has made some clever changes with the new Brawl mode that looks to streamline the best parts of Predecessor's gameplay.

After working closely with players and hearing their feedback, Omeda Studios has crafted an easier way to enjoy the climatic battles and its fascinating cast of characters in the free-to-play multiplayer game.

The new Brawl mode is a more concentrated concoction of Predecessor's organized chaos. A smaller stage and faster cooldowns on abilities help provide the perfect mode for trying out new characters and their wide range of abilities. Defense towers and team cores have been removed in the new mode, focusing more on action than the strategy and teamwork used in the primary game mode. However, Brawl is still more than a mindless Team Deathmatch with Predecessor's five primary classes of characters.

Besides increasing Predecessor's intensity, Brawl features changes to its primary game mode that will see the player's upgradeable abilities unlock faster and more mobile minions like a giant dinosaur. Two large portals spawn at each end of the single-lane map and must be protected from enemy minions trying to reach it, with each team's points decreasing as players perish and minions chip away at the portals. Things can get even more hectic thanks to a tanky neutral boss that spawns in the middle of the level, ready to award many points to whichever team defeats it.

Faster and more accessible matches await new Predecessor players who dive into Brawl matches. After working closely with players and hearing their feedback, Omeda Studios has crafted an easier way to enjoy the climatic battles and its fascinating cast of characters in the free-to-play multiplayer game. However, even long-time players will have a new character to meet with the May 21st update, and she seems like the type of character that could attract a new set of players.

The Ice Queen Cometh To Predecessor

Aurora Becomes MOBA's 36th Playable Hero

Predecessor's cast is a lively bunch of humans, dwarves, wizards, and more, who each specialize in various playstyles - some of which were included in the MOBA Paragon. Long-distance shooters, brutal melee specialists, and everything in between fill out the roster, providing a fun character for almost every type of player. Predecessor's new Hero, Aurora, stands out like a formidable Disney Princess who leveled herself up in a Final Fantasy game. Her icy abilities can damage foes around her and help her and her teammates reach great heights.

Like many of Predecessor's playable characters, Aurora's inclusion should help effective teammates gain an edge when her abilities are combined with others. Her Glacial Charge creates an ice wall that can build a quick ramp to establish effective shortcuts and ambushes against enemy teams. The Ice Queen can also boost team movement speeds and slow down enemies, creating a perfect opportunity for hard-hitting teammates to shatter the competition.

Brawl Mode Is Great For Beginners & Aurora Opens New Strategies For Pros

Even though Predecessor is technically in Early Access, the amount of gameplay variation, balancing, and stunning character animations prove that Omeda Studios has crafted a deep and visually impressive multiplayer experience that deserves attention. The update should provide new mechanics and strategies for the thousands of Predecessor players with Aurora's presence in the game. At the same time, new players can try her and every other character in Brawl mode, which will likely entice even inexperienced players to explore more of what Predecessor has in store before the next update adds even more to enjoy.
