Where Has Nina Dobrev Been Since Vampire Diaries?
The Vampire Diaries was a huge lift to Dobrev’s career when it came out. When the first season premiered, Dobrev was only 20 years old. While she had had a couple of roles in one-off TV episodes, small movies, or the occasional recurring character (e.g. in Degrassi: Minis), it was The Vampire Diaries that really gave Dobrev her chance to step into the spotlight into a prominent lead role.
Dobrev did so to great success, as both her character and The Vampire Diaries as a whole became incredibly popular. The Vampire Diaries is still an oft-watched and rewatched show to this day, and it is considered one of the better teen shows in recent years. In addition to helping Dobrev, it was also a notable show in the careers of multiple of The Vampire Diaries’ supporting actors, including Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder.
