Related 10 Best Spy x Family Missions (So Far) Spy x Family has become worldwide phenomenon with some of the funniest and cutest stories in anime. Here are ten of the show's best missions.

10 "If you value your life, never trust anyone. That's just how people like you and me gotta live."

Said by Franky in chapter #14

One of the best-known rules of espionage is that a spy should not get attached to anyone, be it a fellow spy, an informant, or worst of all, one's target. Even Loid's trusty informant Franky seems to be well acquainted with this golden rule, which very well applies to him too despite his constant efforts to pick up a date.

I already told you once—you gotta keep your emotions out of this. If you value your life, never trust anyone. That's just how people like you and me gotta live. —Franky Franklin

No doubt, Loid knows this rule well and logic dictates that the Forger family is only his cover for Operation Strix. However, Spy x Family often sees Loid struggling to distinguish the blurring line between his emotions and his mission. As such, one would argue Franky's reminders are warranted, though fans would surely rather see Loid continue to bond with the Forger family and his new persona.

9 "I want to be a better mother to that girl."

Said by Yor in chapter #7

While there has been occasional doubt about whether Loid cares about the Forger family beyond Operation Strix, one rather strong attachment formed very early on was between Anya and Yor. Though she does not know Anya's real story yet, Yor quickly becomes very protective of her new charge and has clearly come to care for her deeply even though their family is a farce.

I know that this family is just for appearances. But… I still feel like…I want to be a better mother to that girl. —Yor Forger

Yor's desire to be a better mother to Anya likely stems from her losing her own at a young age. Yor was forced to raise Yuri herself after their parents died during the war and most likely empathizes greatly with Anya on the matter. While Loid's allegiances are slowly but surely shifting as well, the wholesome bond between Anya and Yor will surely only grow even stronger as Spy x Family's story progresses.

8 "There's nothing more elegant than the precious elegance of youthful friendship!"

Said by Henderson in chapter #39

One of the many running gags in the series is Professor Henderson's obsession, admiration, and aspiration towards elegance in every sphere of life. Despite often providing comedic relief, Professor Henderson is evidently quite wise and often imparts his profound wisdom to Anya and her fellow classmates at Cecile Hall.

One such amazing piece of insight from Professor Henderson is seen in chapter #39 when he observes Damian letting loose with his friends and enjoying his childhood to the fullest as he should. Having lived through tough times himself, Henderson is certainly right when he claims that there is nothing more precious and elegant than carefree childhood friendships. In fact, this may even be a nod to Henderson's own friendship with Martha in the past, which was fleshed out in his recently revealed backstory.

7 "Hopes of marriage? The joys of an ordinary life? Those joined my I.D. papers in the rubbish bin on the day I became a spy."

Said by Loid in chapter #1

As seen from his backstory, Loid threw away his former identity when he became Twilight. His real name is never revealed to readers and as one particular quote from chapter #1 proves, Loid even threw away any hopes of having a normal life when he became a spy. That said, despite his best efforts, Loid has gradually come to enjoy the little joys of his new fake family.

Thoughts of Yor and Anya have often clouded Loid's judgment, and he is seen doing everything in his power to keep up the facade on multiple counts. Unbeknownst to himself, Loid has indeed begun to find comfort in the Forger family, as seen from the Cruise Adventure arc where Loid is seen enjoying the vacation with Yor and Anya. Though parenthood constantly provides challenges, Loid is undoubtedly growing attached to Anya as well, and will inevitably find it difficult to abandon his new family when Operation Strix does eventually come to an end.

6 "When you point a blade at someone, you don't get to complain when one is pointed back at you."

Said by Yor in chapter #53

A decisive moment in Yor's character arc in Spy x Family takes place during the Cruise Adventure Arc when Yor is forced to face a hoard of assassins just as strong as she is. During the battle, one of the assassins confronts Yor for killing nearly all the other assassins, calling her heartless. However, Yor claims that she was simply returning the favor and doing her job.

Later in the battle, Yor is nearly taken to the edge of death and nearly gives up, ready to accept her fate when the thought of her family, both real and fake, motivates her to keep fighting. Yor remembers the reason she became an assassin was to protect the fragile peace between the nations and prevent any more needless tragedies. As such, the scene and the quote are quite crucial to explaining Yor's motives for killing and make it clear that she isn't the ruthless killer she appears to be.

5 "Papa is the world's biggest liar. But... he's a cool liar."

Said by Anya in chapter #1

Another one of Spy x Family's gags that never gets old is Anya's ability to see right through everybody's lies, especially when it comes to Yor and Loid. This makes for some especially funny interactions when the adults warn Anya against lying despite being the biggest liars themselves. Loid is easily most guilty of this crime and constantly weaves intricate webs of lies wherever he goes, leading to Anya rightly referring to him as the world's biggest liar.

Thanks to Anya's mind-reading powers, she of course sees through Loid's countless lies from the very start, though she quickly also recognizes just how great of a spy he is. Though he may be a liar, Anya clearly looks up to Loid and her admiration is easy to see as early as chapter #1.

4 "Making a world where kids don't need to cry... That was the whole reason... I became a spy in the first place."

Said by Loid in chapter #1

Much like Yor, Loid too has witnessed the horrors of war first-hand and does everything in his power to ensure the tragedies he has lived through aren't repeated. The entire goal of Operation Strix is to maintain the peace between Ostania and Westalis and while Anya is only part of the mission, Loid realizes very early on that it would be counter-intuitive to endanger an innocent girl as part of his mission.

The mistake was endangering that child in the first place. How did I not see that? Making a world where kids don't need to cry... That was the whole reason... I became a spy in the first place. —Loid Forger

Loid gets a reality check when Anya is kidnapped by one of his targets and becomes much more careful after the incident, making sure Anya never comes in harm's way due to his secret identity as Twilight. Moreover, Loid's true mission of wanting to make a world where children do not cry gains even more meaning when Spy x Family eventually delves into Loid's own childhood and tragic origins.

3 "I apologize for the intrusion, but... may I have the honor of taking your life?"

Said by Yor in chapter #2

As far as character introductions go, the entry of Yor's alter-ego Thorn Princess, is one of the most memorable moments in the series. Contrary to her usual awkwardness, Yor carries out her assignments as Thorn Princess with utmost grace and charm and one specific quote from the very beginning of the series drives the point home early.

In the now-famous scene, Yor carries out her very first on-screen assassination after politely excusing herself and asking for permission to kill her target. The subtle smile on Yor's face and the carnage that follows paint Yor as quite the cold-blooded assassin. Granted, this is only a one-off occurrence in the series, but the scene and the quote accompanying it perfectly convey just how dangerous Yor can be when she isn't being Anya's doting mother.

2 "Knowledge is... a swole chihuahua?"

Said by Anya in chapter #26

Anya's struggles with language never get old nor do they get any less funnier despite being a constant occurrence. Though Anya has many funny quotes in Spy x Family, one in particular takes the cake. In chapter #26, Yuri attempts to tutor Anya, and the entire scene is pure comedic gold, perfectly capturing the series' unique humor that never misses the mark. Unsurprisingly, Anya makes one of her signature mix-ups when Yuri tries telling her "knowledge is power," which Anya somehow hears and misinterprets as "knowledge is a swole chihuahua."

While it seems quite nonsensical in English, the line is actually quite an impressive localization of the original Japanese pun. In the original, Yuri says "chi wa chikara" which translates to pretty much the same as the English version; however, in Japanese, Anya hears this as "chiwawa chikara" hence explaining the chihuahua reference.

1 "Ignorance isn't bliss. Ignorance is weakness. Ignorance is a sin.

Said by Loid in chapter #62.3

While Spy x Family is primarily a lighthearted family sitcom, it also serves as a deep commentary on the horrors of war and its lasting effects. While Westalis and Ostania are in the middle of a Cold War at present, the scars of past conflict between the nations can be seen on nearly every character in Spy x Family, down to even Anya.

Many are still unaware of the scale of destruction a war can bring about, with some even believing war could not possibly affect them as Loid did when he was younger. However, as Loid puts it in chapter #62.3, such ignorance isn't bliss, despite what the popular idiom may claim. Loid's words are easily one of the most evocative quotes in the series and prove that Spy x Family may gradually be moving away from comedy onto more complex, nuanced themes as the story progresses.

Spy x Family is available from Crunchyroll.
