Is The XDefiant Battle Pass Worth The Price?

Summary XDefiant has a variety of factions with unique abilities but emphasizes mechanical skill over composition.

The battle pass costs 700 XCoins and offers rewards like cosmetics/boosters.

The Preseason Battle Pass features high-quality items like skins and animations, which may be worth purchasing for dedicated players.

With the highly anticipated arcade shooter XDefiant officially launched, the question now becomes if its battle pass system is worth the price. XDefiant has had its fair share of problems in recent years, with continued delays required to polish the game. A recent technical test showed that the game was in a polished enough state to at least launch into a preseason. However, it will still be an important task to maintain the game and accomplish its goal of competing with other shooters.

XDefiant is an arcade shooter combining various factions across the Ubisoft franchise. The game will launch with five factions from different Ubisoft games. For example, The Cleaners originally from The Division use fire drones and grenades to clear out enemies. Meanwhile, the Libertad from Far Cry 6 has a set of healing devices to support the team. XDefiant won't be as composition-reliant as hero-shooters, as mechanical skill will still reign supreme, but a proper team comp will certainly give one side the tactical advantage.

How Much Does The XDefiant Battle Pass Cost?

Is The XDefiant Battle Pass Worth Purchasing?

Close

Whether XDefiant's battle pass is worth buying differs from person to person, though it is a more generous purchase than others. The price for the pace is 700 XCoins, the game's premium currency, which will cost $10 to buy 1000 XCoins. Luckily, XDefiant does what other great battle pass systems have done and gives players enough coins back to buy the next pass, assuming the price stays the same. In this regard, if players only want to receive cosmetics from the battle pass, consistent playing will mean they only ever need to spend the initial $10.

Factions in XDefiant include The Cleaners from The Division, Echelon from Splinter Cell, Libertad from Far Cry 6, Phantoms from Ghost Recon Phantoms, and Dedsec from Watch Dogs 2.

The battle pass will reward a variety of loot, with this Preseason pass containing 50 tiers of cosmetics/boosters along with three rewards gained instantly on purchase. Skins are per gun/character, so they do not transfer over like in other games. However, there are emoji packs, character animations, and player card effects that are all usable regardless of character. The last rewards are weapon and battle pass experience boosters that last 40 minutes.

XDefiant also has a shop that will rotate daily items such as character skins, weapon skins, and animations. Anything epic rarity or below will cost no more than 1000 XCoins. Legendary cosmetics will cost a little over 1000 XCoins and thus will require the $20 XCoin package to receive 2000. These prices are relatively similar to other games that use these systems, so overall, XDefiant does not overcharge its player base.

Standout Items From XDefiant Preseason Battle Pass

Keeping High-Quality Cosmetics

Despite this being a shortened season, the battle pass is still filled with a few high-quality items for players to grab. The three epic tier rewards include the Cold Steal skin for the D50 pistol, Superhero Landing character animation, and Lux skin for the P90 SMG. The gun skins in XDefiant are done extremely well and are akin to the high-quality skins from Rainbow Six Siege. Even some of the rare and common skins, albeit an obvious lower tier, have their charm.

The three legendary rewards include the Firestorm skin for the Cleaner character Green, Gunfighter animation, and Firestorm skin for the MDR rifle. Legendary rewards are a noteworthy step-up in quality compared to everything else in the game. Thus, they warrant the price tag of the pass and could even feel like a steal when compared to buying a legendary from the store.

Each faction has three playable characters, one given for free and two unlocked through in-game challenges.

Overall, the Preseason Battle Pass is a welcome sight to showcase the quality of XDefiant's future cosmetics. However, it still balances keeping pay-to-win or best-quality cosmetics out of it so as not to feel like a must-have. Those who enjoy the game and the cosmetics can feel satisfied in a purchase, but those who wish to just play can avoid it without fear of missing out. Thus, as of now, the XDefiant battle pass is worth purchasing for those who truly love the game.
