Given the completely different tones and genres of A Quiet Place and IF, it makes sense why Krasinski would have wanted to avoid a tragic ending in his new family-friendly feel-good movie.

Krasinski switched up one major element of his own roles in both A Quiet Place and IF. Playing a father in both films, as well as writer/director, Krasinski's character in A Quiet Place, Lee Abbott died at the end of the film while surviving at the end of IF. Lee sacrificed himself to the Death Angels in A Quiet Place in order to ensure the safety of his family in a true hero moment. While IF carries the risk of Krasinski's character's death throughout, he ends up surviving open heart surgery and living in the end.

Given the completely different tones and genres of A Quiet Place and IF, it makes sense why Krasinski would have wanted to avoid a tragic ending in his new family-friendly feel-good movie. As a PG-13-rated horror film, A Quiet Place was not nearly as heavy on the scares and gory elements of other popular horror franchises, but the heroic sacrifice of Lee was certainly designed for more mature audiences. Krasinski's Dad character surviving in IF offers the audience a massive sigh of relief at the end of the movie.

IF Reverses The Fates Of The Parents In A Quiet Place

The mother survives in A Quiet Place but dies in IF

Although IF is primarily targeted at families and children, the film does begin with some heavy subject matter and themes. It's implied that Bea's mother dies of cancer before the events of the film take place, which undoubtedly takes a major toll on her throughout her childhood. This is notably a reversal of the parents' fates from A Quiet Place to IF, since the mom in A Quiet Place, played by Emily Blunt, stays alive and the dad ends up dead. The opposite is true for IF, which could set up a potential sequel starring Krasinski in the near future.
