A newly announced Pokémon TCG card from the Shrouded Fable expansion is bringing back a rare Mythical Pokémon after a three-year absence from the Trading Card Game. Shrouded Fable is an upcoming set arriving in Western markets later this year. The collection will be composed of a portion of the Night Wanderer expansion, which will be released exclusively in Japan in early June. Some cards from Night Wanderer have started being showcased and a recent one showcases a Mythical creature that may be making a comeback via the release of Pokémon TCG: Shrouded Fable.

As was reported by Pokebeach, a new Genesect card has been officially confirmed for the Night Wanderer set in Japan. Considering how expansions are adapted for Western releases, it is quite likely that the new Genesect card will be added to the Shrouded Fable expansion later this year. The creature appears in a standard Pokémon card and is not a Pokémon ex card. This is the standard print of the card, with no indications of an Illustration Rare version so far. In the Pokémon TCG card’s artwork, Genesect seems to use its signature Techno Blast move.

The confirmation of Genesect’s return to the Trading Card Game via the Night Wanderer set and, quite possibly, the Shrouded Fable expansion also ends the creature’s three-year absence. The last time Genesect cards were printed was in the Sword and Shield: Fusion Strike set, which was released back in 2021. At the time, the Mythical creature appeared as Genesect V. The card was printed in its standard version, a Full Art version, and a Special Illustration Rare version, which is still considered one of the best cards in Pokémon TCG: Fusion Strike.

This new Genesect card, however, will work in a very different way than its previous iteration. In fact, this Mythical Pokémon in the Night Wanderer expansion will be a counter to ACE SPEC cards. According to Pokebeach, Genesect’s Ability will make it impossible for opponents to play an ACE SPEC card from their hand as long as Genesect is equipped with a Pokémon Tool card. This effect can occur even with them on the Bench, which is a great way of nullifying ACE SPEC cards in Pokémon TCG, some of the strongest Trainer cards in the game.

The new Genesect has 110 HP and its three-Energy attack, called Magneblast, deals 100 damage. This new card, likely making its way into the Shrouded Fable expansion, could be important for some competitive decks. While it is arguable that its countering ability is limited, especially considering only one ACE SPEC card is allowed per deck, with constant rotations and new expansions being released, Genesect may prove invaluable as certain decks could end up relying heavily on their one ACE SPEC card in Pokémon TCG.

Depending on the deck’s structure, players may even have tutor cards designed to search for their ACE SPEC cards to give them the upper hand.

It should not be long before Genesect gets put up to play, as the Night Wanderer expansion is due to arrive in Japan on June 7. The card should not take too long to make it into the Western market either, as the Shrouded Fable expansion for Pokémon TCG is set to arrive on August 2.
