The Old Man Season 2 Story Update Reveals Timeline & Location Details In Jeff Bridges' Latest Comment
Summary The release date for The Old Man season 2 is not confirmed yet, but it will debut in 2024.
The story picks up weeks after season 1 and focuses on a father's quest.
Updates by the executive producers reveal season 2 will involve travel to locations, including Hong Kong, England, and Afghanistan.
The Old Man executive producers Jeff Bridges and Warren Littlefield reveal new season 2 details, including the timeline and location. Debuting in June 2022 and based on the 2017 novel by Tom Perry, the adaptation stars the Oscar-winning Bridges in the lead role of a seemingly average person with a dangerous past and several aliases. Developed by the duo of Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine and with supporting actors that include John Lithgow, E. J. Bonilla, Alia Shawkat, and Amy Brenneman, the seven-episode season 1 received generally positive reviews and has led to much anticipation about the second installment.
Though it's confirmed to premiere later in 2024, there still isn't an exact release date for The Old Man season 2 on FX/Hulu. Still, in comments to TVLine, Littlefield shared new details about the timeline and the location. The executive producer, who was speaking at Disney's recent Upfronts event, said the story would go all over the globe. Bridges added that the story would pick up just weeks after the season 1 ending. Read the full quote below:
Bridges: [We go] looking for our daughter — either Angela or Emily, depending on who you’re asking! But we’re traveling all over the world this season, [including to Hong Kong, England and Afghanistan.] Littlefield: It’s a father’s quest to get his daughter and bring her to safety.
The Season 1 Cliffhanger Will Have An Impact
Close
Following the eventful Old Man season 1 finale, it sounds like the FX series will continue its examination of how personal relationships impact the most high-stakes of situations. Former CIA partners Chase and Harold (Lithgow), now a higher-up at the FBI, were supporting Afghanistan rebel leader Faraz Hamzad (Pej Vahdat) three decades ago but their operation went south. Young Chase (Bill Heck) fell in love with the rebel's wife Belour Hamzad (Leem Lubany) and they ran away to live their own life in the U.S. That life included a daughter, Angela Adams (Shawkat).
Towards the end of season 1, it’s revealed that Faraz is Angela’s real father. The finale ends with Angela and Faraz (played in the present day by Navid Negahban). The closing episode becomes a question of what Chase, Harold, and Faraz would risk for Angela’s safety and well-being, each of them looking at her as a daughter in some way. But the facts of the situation are complicated. Angela, who is abducted and taken to Faraz, does not know that he is her father. Complications abound with Zoe (Brenneman), as well, as she’s drawn in by the dangers of Dan’s life.

The update could mean, as well, that The Old Man plans to move on fairly quickly from the stories of the first season in order to expand its focus upon returning for a second installment. Though it was greeted with a generally warm reception, especially for Bridges' roaring lead performance in the first few episodes, which were directed by Spider-Man: No Way Home's Jon Watts, the adaptation could just as often lose the balance between the thrills and the more quieter moments. A globe-spanning adventure could provide just the needed change of pace.
The Old Man season 1 is available to stream on Hulu.
