Seeking Sister Wife season 5 stars Dannielle and Garrick Merrifield consider converting to Islam to marry Garrick's new girlfriend, Mariam. The unscripted TLC series premiered in 2018, and the Merrifields made their television debut in 2021, during season 3. The couple returned for season 4, and are now appearing in season 5. 35-year-old Dannielle and 40-year-old Garrick dated multiple women in their search for a sister wife. They initially dated Roberta Pache, a Brazilian woman who spoke no English and could only communicate with them through language translation apps.

After Roberta dumped the Merrifields via text, the Seeking Sister Wife season 5 stars moved on with Nathalia Lima, yet another Brazilian woman who could only communicate via translation apps. Though Garrick was prevented from marrying Nathalia by a Brazilian judge who found out he was a polygamist, the Merrifields went back home to the United States and started dating Mariam, a Muslim woman. Garrick & Dannielle's Journey

The Merrifields first appeared in Seeking Sister Wife season 3, during which they dated Roberta, and the relationship continued during season 4. Garrick wanted to move Roberta to the United States. The easiest way to do so would be through a fiancé visa, so Garrick ended his 13-year marriage to Dannielle, so he could legally marry Roberta. When the Merrifields started dating Lea Newton and even had her stay at their home, Roberta was very jealous. She broke up with the Merrifields before she could ever move to the United States.

After their disappointing experience with Roberta, Dannielle was understandably rethinking the whole polygamy experience, but Garrick was as determined as ever.

He almost immediately met another Brazilian woman with a limited grasp of the English language. Although 33-year-old Roberta was age-appropriate, 26-year-old Nathalia was almost 15 years Garrick's junior. Despite the fact that Dannielle was uncomfortable with moving forward, Garrick proposed to Nathalia and she accepted.

Things got even more complicated for the Merrifields when Dannille announced that she was pregnant.

Garrick was in Brazil planning his wedding to Nathalia when Dannielle broke the news during a video chat. Garrick and Dannielle's marriage hadn't been in a good place, and, just as it looked like their 16-year relationship was on the rocks, the Merrifields were pregnant with their third child. After the episode aired, TLC posted adorable photos of the Merrifields and their baby on Instagram. Garrick and Dannielle's adorable baby daughter, Leia Lilly Melisa Merrifield, was born on May 17, 2023.

The existence of Mariam was teased at the end of Seeking Sister Wife season 5, episode 11. Miriam reached out to the Merrifields online. Unlike some of the Merrifields' other sister wife candidates, Mariam lives in the United States and speaks English fluently. The Michigan resident and single mother of a 2-year-old is a Muslim. Mariam claims that her mother had a sister wife, so she's familiar with the lifestyle.

It's a little suspect that Mariam reached out to them after seeing them on the show, and she could potentially just want to appear on television.

Though it's easy to assume Dannielle and Garrick Merrifield are Mormons, they're actually devout Christians of an unidentified denomination. During the Seeking Sister Wife season 5 premiere, Garrick explains the unique biblical reading that led him to choose polygamy. "A lot of the scriptures, the terms where it says he fills you with the holy ghost, it's actually a sexual term," said Garrick. "It actually means, like, sperm going into, like, intimacy that way."

With Dannielle seated beside him, Garrick continues, "And even scientifically, we've found that, you know, when a man and a woman become one, and his sperm goes into a woman and his DNA becomes part of her."

In a clip posted on the TLC Facebook account, the Merrifields addressed the issue with Miriam. In the clip, Dannielle's brother and sister-in-law ask Miriam if she plans to convert to Christianity. With Dannielle and Garrick looking on in rapt attention, Mariam answers that she wasn't considering a conversion. Garrick says he doesn't know much about Islam, but that he would like to be on the same page spiritually, so he intended to learn more about it.

It's hard to believe that Garrick would convert to Islam, but he will likely be willing to overlook the fact that Mariam doesn't share their faith.

How Does Nathalia Feel About Another Potential Wife?

When a Brazilian judge found out that Garrick was a polygamist, the Brazilian government put a stop to Nathalia and Garrick's wedding. Though Dannielle tried to hide it, she was obviously thrilled about the turn of events. Since Nathalia was barely tolerant of sharing Garrick with Dannielle, she was unlikely to be eager to share him with a new woman. Though she entered into the relationship with good intentions, she is likely thinking twice about her decision to live in a polygamous marriage.

Nathalia had always seemed less interested in being a sister wife, and more interested in having Garrick all to herself.

Regardless of what happens between Garrick and Mariam, he's unlikely to stop looking for new wives and making Dannielle miserable. In an interview with producers during Seeking Sister Wife season 5, Garrick spoke about Dannielle.

"I really feel like God promised our family, uh, more than just Dannielle."

He added, "I mean, I had a vision years ago that I had five wives, and they were good." Garrick appears determined to continue down the path of polygamy, and Nathalia won't be able to stop him.
