"Already The Best COD Since Black Ops 4": Fans React To Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 Trailer

Summary First Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 teaser reveals 90s setting, sparking fan sarcasm and debate on best recent game in series.

Teaser connects to upcoming event, hinting at full game reveal on June 9. Xbox Game Pass may see changes with series addition.

thetruthlies.com unveiled with possible hints for more reveals. Fans eagerly await new information leading up to June 9 showcase.

The first footage for the Call of Duty game has been revealed, and as is to be expected, the fanbase has opinions. Through various rumors and leaks, it's been well reported that the next entry in the series will be the sixth in the Black Ops line, taking place sometime in the 90s around the Gulf War.

CharlieINTEL, which covers all things Call of Duty, took to X with the footage, announcing that "The first Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 teaser is here" while sharing a link to the new website thetruthlies.com. The site only seems to show a 90s-style TV, further leaning into the previous rumors about the setting, that plays a 41-second clip of a group covering Mount Rushmore with banners saying "The Truth Lies" before turning to static. A second clip shared by erikkain also shows someone putting up posters with the same slogan.

Because of the short nature of the clips, which appear to be live-action promos, rather than gameplay footage of the upcoming title, many of the fans seemed sarcastic in their responses under CharlieINTEL's post, with hamsterbone36 calling it "the best COD since Black Ops 4", a title that was critically well-received (boasting an 83 score on Metacritic), but controversial among fans for its lack of a single player campaign, resulting in a user score of 4.2. This did, however, spark a debate about the best recent game in the series, with some arguing that the last Black Ops entry, Cold War, was great, but got overshadowed by the rebooted Modern Warfare series.

One thing the teaser did do was connect to the branding for a previously announced "[REDACTED] Direct" event, as the banners covering Mount Rushmore mirrored that of the event announcement. This event takes place on June 9, following an Xbox Games Showcase, and while the [REDACTED] Direct has tried to avoid using the Call of Duty name in its reveal so far, it seems widely accepted that the new game's first full reveal will happen there.

Many are also hoping to hear more concrete information surrounding the franchise's place on Xbox Game Pass, which has been a talking point ever since Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard last year. There have been recent reports that the addition of the Call of Duty series to Game Pass will bring "changes" to the subscription if it happens, with Activision reportedly being concerned about a loss of revenue should the newest Call of Duty game launch on Game Pass.

Time will tell what happens with Xbox Game Pass, but the topic of potential price increases or tiers has already proven to be controversial with those subscribers who aren't fans of Call of Duty or the shooter genre in general. In the meantime, now that thetruthlies.com has been unveiled, and has six different channels to flick through (4 of which are currently blank), Call of Duty fans should keep an eye on the site for more potential reveals in the build-up to the June 9th showcase.
