To provide a more in-depth description of Firework, players will step into the role of Lin Lixun, a rookie police officer who takes on the task of investigating a closed case after a mysterious fire breaks out at a local funeral. In doing so, the dark history of the town will expose itself as Lin is forced to confront personal demons and uncover the truth while also trying to survive seemingly supernatural forces. The narrative is dense and can occasionally be difficult to follow but its conclusion shouldn't leave players wanting as it wraps up nearly all the game's loose ends.
When it comes to actually playing Firework, don't expect overly complicated puzzles that gatekeep progress. There's a decent amount of variation in the small tasks that players will have to complete to see the next chapter of the story, but for the most part, they're fairly simple to figure out. Firework's main draw is its art direction and presentation, which are both consistently creepy and unsettling, using jumpscares appropriately and with restraint to maximize terror and discomfort.
Firework isn't the only horror game dropping on Xbox Game Pass in June as it's joined by the Day One release Still Wakes The Deep. Developed by The Chinese Room, the game places players on an isolated oil rig in the middle of the North Sea and sets them loose to investigate what caused the station to suddenly drop all its communications channels with the land. With the introduction of what appears to be some kind of supernatural creature, it's shaping up to be a terrifying romp when it arrives on June 18.
