Jenn Tran's The Bachelorette Season 21 Promo Sparks Concerns

Jenn Tran's The Bachelorette Season 21 Promo Sparks Concerns

Summary Fans are expressing concerns that Jenn's Bachelorette promo resembles Love Island, a departure from the traditional format.

Jenn, a 26-year-old aspiring physician assistant, is the first Asian American lead in The Bachelorette franchise.

Despite some fan disappointment over casting decisions, Jenn deserves support in her journey to find love on the show.

Fans are expressing their concerns that Jenn Tran's The Bachelorette season 21 promo looks more like a preview for Netflix's reality dating series Love Island than the traditional Bachelorette. Jenn, a 26-year-old physician assistant student from Hillsdale, New Jersey, who's currently living in Miami, Florida, was cast as the newest Bachelorette after she competed for Joey Graziadei's heart in his Bachelor season. Despite making it to the Top 6 and telling Joey that she was falling in love with him, he said goodbye to her right before his hometown dates. Now Jenn is continuing her journey to find love in The Bachelorette season 21.

"Why did they make this look so much like Love Island."

In a The Bachelorette promo, shared via Instagram, "Power" by Little Mix ft. Stormzy plays, as Jenn presses a button on a crane machine filled with roses and stuffed toys of men that says, "Fall in Love."

Jenn then sits in the claw of the crane machine and picks up a rose. The words, "July 8, the power is in her hands" flash on the screen in pink and blue neon writing on a purple background. Instagram user @whitkayr commented, "Why did they make this look so much like Love Island." Many fans agreed that the promo looked similar to the Netflix reality dating series. In another comment, @kaitlinmamie responded, "I mean.. at least it seems like they’re FINALLY trying to evolve."

Fans Still Want Daisy Kent Or Maria Georgas As The Bachelorette Lead

Both Daisy & Maria Turned Down The Bachelorette Season 21

Although it's been made known that Bachelor season 28 runner-up Daisy and fourth place finisher Maria turned down The Bachelorette season 21, some fans still wish that they were cast as the lead. Instagram user @britt.theswifty wrote, "Should have been Maria," while @nicclina wrote that they weren't going to watch because "It should have been Daisy." However, many fans defended Jenn, and expressed their excitement that she was cast in the lead role. Maria and Daisy themselves supported Jenn, with Maria writing, "Oh SHE DID THATTTT," and Daisy saying, "LETS GO JENNNNNN."

Jenn's new Bachelorette promo is definitely different from past versions of the show. As some fans said, it makes sense that the Bachelorette producers would want to model Jenn's season after a more modern reality dating show such as Love Island. The Bachelor franchise has been criticized for many years now for being outdated with its expectation of an engagement at the end of the series. The Bachelorette has had much more failure than success with only four of the 22 Bachelorettes--Trista Rehn, Desiree Hartsock, JoJo Fletcher, and Charity Lawson--still either married or engaged to the men they chose. However, the show shouldn't stray too much from its traditional format.

Bachelor Nation needs to get over the fact that Daisy and Maria won't be the Bachelorette season 21 lead. They were fan favorites, but they weren't slighted. They turned down the role, and they're supporting Jenn. Jenn is excited to find love on the show, and people should support her in her journey. Not only is she ready to find her husband, but she's the first Asian American lead in the franchise, which is an important step in the right direction for representation. Jenn deserves to find her happily-ever-after on The Bachelorette season 21.

The Bachelorette season 21 premieres Monday, July 8 at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
