Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games' free-to-play fighting game MultiVersus ended its open beta last year, coming as a surprise to many after two full seasons of new content and characters gave the appearance that the game had already moved into its full release. Almost a full year later, MultiVersus is set to return with its first season of new content.
MultiVersus' open beta ran between July 19, 2022, and June 25, 2023.
MultiVersus was envisioned as Warner Bros.' answer to the likes of Super Smash Bros. and followed a similar formula with a series of battles taking place across evolving stages inspired by different IPs owned by the company, from Steven Universe's Sky Arena to a haunted mansion from Scooby Doo, to the DC Universe's Batcave. The game also featured an impressive character roster from across these IPs, each with a unique skill set,
Characters such as Black Adam, Gizmo and Stripe from Gremlins, Rick & Morty, and Looney Tunes' Marvin the Martian were included in the MultiVersus beta's first and second seasons.

What Characters Are Coming To MultiVersus In Season 1?
Returning Players Will Get One Major Character For Free
Close
Currently, four characters that weren't present in the beta have been confirmed for MultiVersus' launch. One notable character who got his own trailer was the Joker, with Mark Hamill returning to the role and creating a DC Animated Universe reunion of sorts after the late Kevin Conroy played Batman in the beta. Another well-known villain from The Matrix franchise, Agent Smith has also been confirmed to join the game following its re-launch.
Warner Bros. has now also confirmed that all players who complete MultiVersus' new tutorial will get a seven-day reward calendar that will allow them to unlock Banana Guard from Adventure Time at launch for free, with a Lady Banana Guard character variant available to those who complete all seven days of this reward calendar. Friday The 13th's Jason Voorhees will also be available in the premium tier of the Season 1 Battle Pass, but returning players from the open beta will be able to unlock him for free.
Other characters such as Blue Beatle and Shazam have been teased through the Warner Bros. logos shown at the start of MultiVersus' official launch trailer, but it has yet to be confirmed whether these will appear in Season 1 or at a later date.
Related MultiVersus Characters Who Need To Be Nerfed MultiVersus is still in its early days, but a few characters stand out as being overpowered - most notably Bugs Bunny and Adventure Time's Finn.
What Is Included In MultiVersus' Season 1 Battle Pass?
The Number Of High-Value Items Has Been Increased In Both Tiers
Returning players who log in by June 11 will get the Season 1 premium Battle Pass for free, which is how they'll be able to unlock Jason Voorhees as their first reward. However, both the free and premium tiers of MultiVersus' battle pass have also increased the number of high-value items that can be rewarded, adding more ringouts, character variants, taunts, and currency.
Despite Jason being a premium tier reward, he’ll also be available for purchase via Character tokens carried over from the beta or the new in-game currency once the Battle Pass' duration has ended.
MultiVersus' premium currency, Gleamium, can also be obtained through both tiers. Gleamium can be used to purchase many different in-game items and new characters, or can be saved up and used to purchase - or contribute toward - the next season’s premium Battle Pass. The Season 1 Battle Pass will last for eight weeks. However, the final tier of the pass will be repeatable, so players can keep playing and earning rewards even if they reach the end of it early.

MultiVersus Season 1 Introduces New Currency
While Reworking Its Previous Currency System
Aside from the premium Gleamium, MultiVersus has reworked its currency system for its new launch. Some currencies from the open beta such as Gleamium, character tokens, and Battle Pass tokens will still be available at launch and can be used in the same way, although Player First Games has stated that it will not be offering new character tokens or Battle Pass tokens. Players who have some left over from the beta will still be able to use their pre-existing ones though.
Instead, MultiVersus will feature new replacement currencies to focus more on specific reward types. These include Fighter currency, which can be earned in-game and used to obtain fighters, Perk currency to obtain perks, and a Prestige currency, which further rewards players for all of the items and cosmetics they collect for their favorite fighters. The payout of Prestige currency will vary depending on the type and rarity of these items and cosmetics, and can then be used to purchase the rarest cosmetics in the game, Prestige cosmetics.
The Gold currency from MultiVersus' open beta will not be returning in the main launch, but commemorative cosmetics that correlate to the Gold earned during the beta will start to appear in players' inventory.

MultiVersus Season 1 Will Be Making Perks More Valuable
Many Perks Went Unused In The Beta
The Perks currency comes as part of a reworking of how the Perks system works in MultiVersus Season 1. Perks are powerups that can be attached to characters to give them particular buffs during combat and can be a fun addition to gameplay, but Player First Games confirmed that most players only used a few key Perks in the beta, while others often went completely unused.
Perks will now be unlocked using the Perk currency, which can be gained through Events, Battle Passes, Account Mastery, Character Mastery or playing MultiVersus' Rifts Mode.
Therefore, to make Perks "more valuable" to players, the team removed the old Perks that were rarely used, reworked the favorites, and added new ones that should enhance the overall gameplay experience. When Season 1 launches, all Perks will be reset from the beta to ensure that players are on a somewhat level footing with newcomers, but players will receive an allotment that correlates to the number of Perks unlocked from the Open Beta. With this change to Perks, mastery tracks for characters will also be changing in Season 1, with both player and account mastery tracks being reset to level 1 as well.
While some changes may be controversial after players progressed so much through the beta, it's clear that Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games see MultiVersus' new Season 1 as a fresh start in many ways, despite how popular the game was in its beta. Fortunately, there's plenty in store for both new and existing players when it launches on May 28.
