Pretty Little Liars: Summer School Episode 4 Recap: 8 Biggest Reveals
Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 4, "When a Stranger Calls Back."
Summary Bloody Rose tested Faran's strength in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 4, trying to kill her even after she passed the test.
The girls found the real Rose Waters, who promptly jumped off a bridge, and through Rose's files, Imogen discovered Dr. Sullivan was the woman's doctor.
Kelly rebelled after catching her mother's hypocrisy, leading to mysterious consequences for her in the Beasley household.
Not counting Imogen's Bloody Rose sighting at the bus stop, Mouse had the first real encounter with the season's villain in episode 3, but Bloody Rose wasn't done with the girls, as seen in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 4. The Max slasher teen drama, created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring, introduced Bloody Rose in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 1, and she is arguably more terrifying than Original Sin's villain — "A," aka Archie Waters. Bloody Rose proved how dangerous she could be in episode 3 and further showcased her threat level towards episode 4's ending.
At the beginning of episode 4, Mouse explained to Imogen, Tabby, Faran, and Noa how Bloody Rose made her play a game of hide and seek to test her capability of being a final girl in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 3. They all agreed not to answer calls from unknown numbers (which most did anyway, including Faran, who was certain she could defeat Bloody Rose herself). Then, Imogen tried to schedule an emergency session with Dr. Sullivan (in the middle of the night), but she was dealing with her own issues.

8 Someone Pushed Dr. Sullivan Down The Stairs

The Liars learned that Dr. Sullivan, who was in the original Pretty Little Liars, couldn't see them for an emergency therapy session in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 4 because she was in the hospital. When she was leaving her office, someone snuck up behind Dr. Sullivan and pushed her down the stairs, breaking her leg. Unfortunately, Dr. Sullivan claimed she didn't see who attacked her, but she suspected that it could have been a disgruntled former patient of hers.
Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 4 did not reveal Dr. Sullivan's attacker, so, future episodes will likely reveal more details surrounding her fall down the stairs.
Meanwhile, Imogen believed Dr. Sullivan's "accident" was related to her and her friends' recent dilemma. Bloody Rose could have been the one who pushed the therapist since she was helping Imogen, Tabby, Mouse, Faran, and Noa through their trauma following their experience with "A," and the villain clearly has a problem with them. However, Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 4 did not reveal Dr. Sullivan's attacker, so, future episodes will likely reveal more details surrounding her fall down the stairs.

7 Faran & Henry Reconciled (Until She Learned He Spilled Their Drama At Church)
Kelly Told Faran About The Church's Group Therapy Sessions
Henry came to the Millwood community pool to apologize to Faran following their fight in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 3. As fans recall, Faran finally came clean about her doctor clearing her to dance, which she lied to Henry about during the Pretty Little Liars: Summer School premiere. Henry was, understandably, upset, and took time to sort through his feelings. Apparently, he didn't need much time because a short time later, he arrived at Faran's work with flowers, and the couple reconciled.
Faran and Henry went for a late-night swim during Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 4, and they were surprisingly joined by Kelly and Greg, who were also looking for some alone time. They agreed to share the pool, and while Faran and Kelly talked alone, Kelly revealed she knew about Faran and Henry's relationship problems. Faran was obviously confused, and Kelly explained that Henry told the story during a group therapy session at Our Mother of Holy Grace, angering Faran. It seems that, once again, Faran and Henry are at odds in the Max series.
6 Imogen & Johnny Kissed After Babysitting Estelle
Johnny Waited In His Car All Night For Imogen

While Faran and Henry's relationship drama continued, Imogen deepened her connection with Johnny in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 4. Estelle's (Imogen's biological daughter) father called Imogen to ask her if she could babysit at the last minute since they had to leave town due to a sudden death in the family and Estelle had an ear infection. Of course, Imogen said yes, and she prepared to spend the night with the baby. Things took a turn, though, when one of Estelle's fathers called Imogen to tell her that their security system alerted them to an open window.
It's easy to be suspicious about any new character in Pretty Little Liars on Max, but it's refreshing to see Imogen romantically connect with a (seemingly and hopefully) nice boy in season 2.
He assumed it was just the wind, but Imogen immediately grabbed a knife from the kitchen and Estelle from her room. She called Johnny to come over as an extra safety precaution, and when he arrived, Imogen was evidently paralyzed with fear as she held Estelle in one hand and the knife in another. Johnny took both from her so that she could take some time to calm down, and, as it turned out, no one had broken in. Once Imogen was calm, she explained to Johnny how she was on high alert because of Bloody Rose.
Imogen and Johnny almost kissed but were interrupted by the phone. Johnny then promised to stay in his car all night and wait for her, and he did. Blown away by the gesture, Imogen got in Johnny's car the next morning and kissed him while Yazoo's "Only You" played. It's easy to be suspicious about any new character in Pretty Little Liars on Max, but it's refreshing to see Imogen romantically connect with a (seemingly and hopefully) nice boy in season 2.
5 Kelly's Mother Punished Her For Sneaking Out To Swim With Greg
Kelly Rebelled After Seeing Her Mom With Pastor Malachi

Kelly showed reservations about her church's play in the Pretty Little Liars horror spinoff's fourth episode, which her mother and Pastor Malachi quickly shut down. However, when she saw the two sneaking around the church, Kelly was infuriated by their hypocrisy and decided to rebel by skinny-dipping with Greg. The night was the furthest thing from scandalous, though, because Faran and Henry were also there, but Kelly's mother was still angry when she returned home. Mrs. Beasley called Kelly a sinner, and the series zoomed out of their house while Kelly could be heard begging her mother to stop.
It's unclear what Mrs. Beasley did to Kelly in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 4, but the teenager woke up the next morning in a daze in a dark room with an alter, wearing the same clothes from the night before. Kelly's mother had breakfast waiting for her in the kitchen and made her promise to be strong "for the souls of this town." Kelly seemed brainwashed as she told her mother she would, so, it's evident that the Beasley family's troubles didn't end when the sheriff died.

4 Tabby & Christian Kissed After Making A Short Horror Film
The Two Finally Gave In To Their Feelings
Imogen and Johnny weren't the only couple to celebrate in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 4 — Tabby and Christian also made progress in their relationship during the hour. After someone from the Pittsburgh International Festival of Terror (PIFT) called Tabby inquiring about submitting another short horror film, Johnny helped her put something together fast (with the help of their other friends). Tabby pulled the idea out of the box of storytelling prompts she made with Chip, which triggered her, of course.
Tabby opened up to Christian about it, who encouraged her to still submit her new short film because of how incredible it (and she) is. She immediately pulled him in for a kiss (finally). Similar to Johnny, it's difficult to trust any new character on Pretty Little Liars: Summer School. However, just like Imogen, Tabby deserves a win and her obvious connection with Christian is what she needs after Original Sin. Only time will tell if Christian is one of the good or bad guys, but, for now, viewers can enjoy the blossoming relationship.
3 Noa Cheated On Shawn With Jen
Noa & Jen Kissed After Shawn Paid Jen's Bail

Love seemed to be the central story of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 4, as Noa and Jen's relationship also progressed during the hour. The unfortunate circumstances behind the couple's development were hard to ignore, though, because Noa was still Shawn's girlfriend when she kissed Jen. Yes, the two girls have a history, but Noa could have broken up with Shawn (who has rarely been seen in season 2) before pursuing something with Jen. To make matters worse, Noa and Jen kissed after Shawn gave Noa money to bail Jen out of jail.

Noa and Jen previously ditched work to go to Jen's father's mansion, where they dressed up in expensive clothes, drank liquor from the bar, played pool, and went in the hot tub. Jen explained how her father didn't care about her or her mother, so, Noa encouraged her to steal one of his Rolex's. Unfortunately, Jen's father caught her on his security cameras and called the cops, which is why Noa needed money to bail Jen out of jail. Afterward, Noa and Jen kissed, but viewers must wait until Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 5 to watch the fallout.
2 The Liars Found Rose Waters & Discovered Dr. Sullivan Was Her Doctor
Rose Jumped Off A Bridge After The Girls Approached Her

Throughout Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 4, Mouse had been trying to track down Rose Waters, with the help of Ash. She got some leads on Spooky Spaghetti, and she and Ash checked out some locations where Archie's mother might have been. Mouse and Ash split up to cover more ground, but when Mouse discovered where Rose was, she called her friends to help her confront the older woman.
They tried asking her about Archie, which triggered Rose, who ran past the girls and jumped off a bridge into the water, seemingly dying.
Since Faran was busy (more on that below), Imogen, Tabby, and Noa arrived and, with Mouse, found Rose Waters, who had been living underneath a bridge and was clearly mentally ill. They tried asking her about Archie, which triggered Rose, who ran past the girls and jumped off a bridge into the water, seemingly dying. Although Imogen, Tabby, Mouse, and Noa were shaken by the ordeal, they went back to Rose's spot to search through her things. Imogen found Rose's file from the Radley Sanitarium (a Pretty Little Liars easter egg) and discovered that Dr. Sullivan was her doctor.

1 Bloody Rose Put Faran Through A Test & Tried To Kill Her After She Passed
Image via Max
The most significant reveal of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 4 was Bloody Rose's test for Faran. The villain chose the ballet dancer as her next victim after Mouse and called Faran to challenge her, which Faran accepted as she was high on her pride. She believed she was strong enough to defeat Bloody Rose on her own, but the antagonist didn't exactly play fair. When Faran arrived at the abandoned warehouse, she found a note with her name on it that read:
A final girl can never lose her strength. Lift the girder. If it touches the ground before time runs out, someone you love dies.
Faran held the girder for two hours, passing Bloody Rose's test. Of course, doing so made her incredibly fatigued and weak, so, Faran wasn't exactly prepared to fight the terrifying woman when she emerged from the shadows. Despite passing her test, Bloody Rose still tried to kill Faran and managed to slice the teenager's arm. Thankfully, Faran (barely) escaped by climbing over the chain-locked fence topped with barbed wire, but it seems as though Bloody Rose is just getting started in Pretty Little Liar: Summer School.
Max released new episodes of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School on Thursdays.
