One of the main hooks of Starfield is becoming a Starborn and breaching the barrier between universes, and now those players who want control of the galaxy they ultimately fall into can pick and choose between the variations on offer. In what may be one of the smartest integrations of a New Game+ feature, Starfield allows players to start the game again with all their unlocked weapons and abilities by exploring the Unity, which is functionally a gateway into the multiverse. The result can be a mixed bag, so those who want to determine their destiny should check out this mod.

Posted to Nexus Mods by creator Aurelianis, the appropriately named "Choose Your Variant Universe" mod provides users with the chance to select which of Starfield's alternate universes they join upon starting a New Game+ plus run. Functionally, it appears as a pop-up menu with the different options laid out with specific titles indicating what can be expected on the other side. There's even a "Vanilla" option that perfectly replicates the universe from the first playthrough with the added benefit of being able to completely skip through the Main Quest.

While the prospect of wading into the multiverse suggests that Starfield players will be able to explore a new endless supply of alternate worlds, that's not the case. Entering the Unity can result in the generation of one of 10 new worlds, each with some slight differences that can result in some fun surprises but nothing that will fundamentally alter the gameplay experience. Arguably the most exciting option, listed as "Evil You" in the mod's menu, sees players confronting a dark version of themselves who has successfully killed the entirety of Constellation.

Other variants are sillier, including the "Sarah Plant" universe where prominent Constellation member and companion Sarah Morgan is simply a plant. Another, simply named "Kids," sees the exploration group taken over by a group of children who are still eager to get out into the stars and recover artifacts. Fans are hoping that more variants will be added through post-launch updates but Bethesda has yet to address whether this is a feature that will be expanded upon in the future.

Starfield may have experienced a rocky launch thanks to some missing features and mixed reviews but Bethesda's sci-fi RPG is clawing back its community thanks to its most recent patch. The addition of functional maps and interior ship decorations has seen many players return to the game with the promise of even more major updates keeping them around even longer. The Shattered Space DLC, which is shaping up to be a massive expansion, is expected to arrive before the end of 2024.
